New King James Version | NET Bible |
To the Chief Musician. A Contemplation of the sons of Korah. As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. | 1For the music director; a well-written song by the Korahites. As a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God! |
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? | 2I thirst for God, for the living God. I say, "When will I be able to go and appear in God's presence?" |
My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, “Where is your God?” | 3I cannot eat, I weep day and night; all day long they say to me, "Where is your God?" |
When I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go with the multitude; I went with them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast. | 4I will remember and weep! For I was once walking along with the great throng to the temple of God, shouting and giving thanks along with the crowd as we celebrated the holy festival. |
Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance. | 5Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention. |
O my God, my soul is cast down within me; Therefore I will remember You from the land of the Jordan, And from the heights of Hermon, From the Hill Mizar. | 6I am depressed, so I will pray to you while I am trapped here in the region of the upper Jordan, from Hermon, from Mount Mizar. |
Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; All Your waves and billows have gone over me. | 7One deep stream calls out to another at the sound of your waterfalls; all your billows and waves overwhelm me. |
The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night His song shall be with me— A prayer to the God of my life. | 8By day the LORD decrees his loyal love, and by night he gives me a song, a prayer to the living God. |
I will say to God my Rock, “Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?” | 9I will pray to God, my high ridge: "Why do you ignore me? Why must I walk around mourning because my enemies oppress me?" |
As with a breaking of my bones, My enemies reproach me, While they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” | 10My enemies' taunts cut into me to the bone, as they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?" |
Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God. | 11Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention. |
