New King James Version | English Standard Version |
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Blessed is he who considers the poor; The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. | 1Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the day of trouble the LORD delivers him; |
The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive, And he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies. | 2the LORD protects him and keeps him alive; he is called blessed in the land; you do not give him up to the will of his enemies. |
The LORD will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed. | 3The LORD sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health. |
I said, “LORD, be merciful to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.” | 4As for me, I said, “O LORD, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against you!” |
My enemies speak evil of me: “When will he die, and his name perish?” | 5My enemies say of me in malice, “When will he die, and his name perish?” |
And if he comes to see me, he speaks lies; His heart gathers iniquity to itself; When he goes out, he tells it. | 6And when one comes to see me, he utters empty words, while his heart gathers iniquity; when he goes out, he tells it abroad. |
All who hate me whisper together against me; Against me they devise my hurt. | 7All who hate me whisper together about me; they imagine the worst for me. |
“An evil disease,” they say, “clings to him. And now that he lies down, he will rise up no more.” | 8They say, “A deadly thing is poured out on him; he will not rise again from where he lies.” |
Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me. | 9Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me. |
But You, O LORD, be merciful to me, and raise me up, That I may repay them. | 10But you, O LORD, be gracious to me, and raise me up, that I may repay them! |
By this I know that You are well pleased with me, Because my enemy does not triumph over me. | 11By this I know that you delight in me: my enemy will not shout in triumph over me. |
As for me, You uphold me in my integrity, And set me before Your face forever. | 12But you have upheld me because of my integrity, and set me in your presence forever. |
Blessed be the LORD God of Israel From everlasting to everlasting! Amen and Amen. | 13Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! Amen and Amen. |
