New King James Version | NET Bible |
To the Chief Musician. Set to “The Deer of the Dawn.” A Psalm of David. My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why are You so far from helping Me, And from the words of My groaning? | 1For the music director; according to the tune "Morning Doe;" a psalm of David. My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? I groan in prayer, but help seems far away. |
O My God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not hear; And in the night season, and am not silent. | 2My God, I cry out during the day, but you do not answer, and during the night my prayers do not let up. |
But You are holy, Enthroned in the praises of Israel. | 3You are holy; you sit as king receiving the praises of Israel. |
Our fathers trusted in You; They trusted, and You delivered them. | 4In you our ancestors trusted; they trusted in you and you rescued them. |
They cried to You, and were delivered; They trusted in You, and were not ashamed. | 5To you they cried out, and they were saved; in you they trusted and they were not disappointed. |
But I am a worm, and no man; A reproach of men, and despised by the people. | 6But I am a worm, not a man; people insult me and despise me. |
All those who see Me ridicule Me; They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, | 7All who see me taunt me; they mock me and shake their heads. |
“He trusted in the LORD, let Him rescue Him; Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!” | 8They say, "Commit yourself to the LORD! Let the LORD rescue him! Let the LORD deliver him, for he delights in him." |
But You are He who took Me out of the womb; You made Me trust while on My mother’s breasts. | 9Yes, you are the one who brought me out from the womb and made me feel secure on my mother's breasts. |
I was cast upon You from birth. From My mother’s womb You have been My God. | 10I have been dependent on you since birth; from the time I came out of my mother's womb you have been my God. |
Be not far from Me, For trouble is near; For there is none to help. | 11Do not remain far away from me, for trouble is near and I have no one to help me. |
Many bulls have surrounded Me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled Me. | 12Many bulls surround me; powerful bulls of Bashan hem me in. |
They gape at Me with their mouths, Like a raging and roaring lion. | 13They open their mouths to devour me like a roaring lion that rips its prey. |
I am poured out like water, And all My bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It has melted within Me. | 14My strength drains away like water; all my bones are dislocated; my heart is like wax; it melts away inside me. |
My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And My tongue clings to My jaws; You have brought Me to the dust of death. | 15The roof of my mouth is as dry as a piece of pottery; my tongue sticks to my gums. You set me in the dust of death. |
For dogs have surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet; | 16Yes, wild dogs surround me--a gang of evil men crowd around me; like a lion they pin my hands and feet. |
I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me. | 17I can count all my bones; my enemies are gloating over me in triumph. |
They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots. | 18They are dividing up my clothes among themselves; they are rolling dice for my garments. |
But You, O LORD, do not be far from Me; O My Strength, hasten to help Me! | 19But you, O LORD, do not remain far away! You are my source of strength! Hurry and help me! |
Deliver Me from the sword, My precious life from the power of the dog. | 20Deliver me from the sword! Save my life from the claws of the wild dogs! |
Save Me from the lion’s mouth And from the horns of the wild oxen! You have answered Me. | 21Rescue me from the mouth of the lion, and from the horns of the wild oxen! You have answered me! |
I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will praise You. | 22I will declare your name to my countrymen! In the middle of the assembly I will praise you! |
You who fear the LORD, praise Him! All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, And fear Him, all you offspring of Israel! | 23You loyal followers of the LORD, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! All you descendants of Israel, stand in awe of him! |
For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from Him; But when He cried to Him, He heard. | 24For he did not despise or detest the suffering of the oppressed; he did not ignore him; when he cried out to him, he responded. |
My praise shall be of You in the great assembly; I will pay My vows before those who fear Him. | 25You are the reason I offer praise in the great assembly; I will fulfill my promises before the LORD's loyal followers. |
The poor shall eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him will praise the LORD. Let your heart live forever! | 26Let the oppressed eat and be filled! Let those who seek his help praise the LORD! May you live forever! |
All the ends of the world Shall remember and turn to the LORD, And all the families of the nations Shall worship before You. | 27Let all the people of the earth acknowledge the LORD and turn to him! Let all the nations worship you! |
For the kingdom is the LORD’s, And He rules over the nations. | 28For the LORD is king and rules over the nations. |
All the prosperous of the earth Shall eat and worship; All those who go down to the dust Shall bow before Him, Even he who cannot keep himself alive. | 29All of the thriving people of the earth will join the celebration and worship; all those who are descending into the grave will bow before him, including those who cannot preserve their lives. |
A posterity shall serve Him. It will be recounted of the Lord to the next generation, | 30A whole generation will serve him; they will tell the next generation about the sovereign Lord. |
They will come and declare His righteousness to a people who will be born, That He has done this. | 31They will come and tell about his saving deeds; they will tell a future generation what he has accomplished. |
