NKJV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
Remember, O LORD, what has come upon us; Look, and behold our reproach!1Remember, O LORD, what has befallen us; Look, and see our reproach!
Our inheritance has been turned over to aliens, And our houses to foreigners.2Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, Our houses to aliens.
We have become orphans and waifs, Our mothers are like widows.3We have become orphans without a father, Our mothers are like widows.
We pay for the water we drink, And our wood comes at a price.4We have to pay for our drinking water, Our wood comes to us at a price.
They pursue at our heels; We labor and have no rest.5Our pursuers are at our necks; We are worn out, there is no rest for us.
We have given our hand to the Egyptians And the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.6We have submitted to Egypt and Assyria to get enough bread.
Our fathers sinned and are no more, But we bear their iniquities.7Our fathers sinned, and are no more; It is we who have borne their iniquities.
Servants rule over us; There is none to deliver us from their hand.8Slaves rule over us; There is no one to deliver us from their hand.
We get our bread at the risk of our lives, Because of the sword in the wilderness.9We get our bread at the risk of our lives Because of the sword in the wilderness.
Our skin is hot as an oven, Because of the fever of famine.10Our skin has become as hot as an oven, Because of the burning heat of famine.
They ravished the women in Zion, The maidens in the cities of Judah.11They ravished the women in Zion, The virgins in the cities of Judah.
Princes were hung up by their hands, And elders were not respected.12Princes were hung by their hands; Elders were not respected.
Young men ground at the millstones; Boys staggered under loads of wood.13Young men worked at the grinding mill, And youths stumbled under loads of wood.
The elders have ceased gathering at the gate, And the young men from their music.14Elders are gone from the gate, Young men from their music.
The joy of our heart has ceased; Our dance has turned into mourning.15The joy of our hearts has ceased; Our dancing has been turned into mourning.
The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned!16The crown has fallen from our head; Woe to us, for we have sinned!
Because of this our heart is faint; Because of these things our eyes grow dim;17Because of this our heart is faint, Because of these things our eyes are dim;
Because of Mount Zion which is desolate, With foxes walking about on it.18Because of Mount Zion which lies desolate, Foxes prowl in it.
You, O LORD, remain forever; Your throne from generation to generation.19You, O LORD, rule forever; Your throne is from generation to generation.
Why do You forget us forever, And forsake us for so long a time?20Why do You forget us forever? Why do You forsake us so long?
Turn us back to You, O LORD, and we will be restored; Renew our days as of old,21Restore us to You, O LORD, that we may be restored; Renew our days as of old,
Unless You have utterly rejected us, And are very angry with us!22Unless You have utterly rejected us And are exceedingly angry with us.
