Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.1After the Sabbaths, around dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to take a look at the burial site.
And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it.2Suddenly, there was a powerful earthquake, because an angel of the Lord had come down from heaven, approached the stone, rolled it away, and was sitting on top of it.
His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.3His appearance was bright as lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.
And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.4Trembling from fear, even the guards themselves became catatonic.
But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.5Responding to the women, the angel said, "Stop being frightened! I know you're looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.6He is not here. He has been raised, just as he said. Come and see the place where he was lying.
And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.”7Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead. He is going ahead of you into Galilee, and you will see him there. Remember, I have told you!"
So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.8So they quickly left the tomb, terrified but also ecstatic, and ran to tell Jesus' disciples.
And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him.9Suddenly, Jesus met them and said, "Greetings!" They went up to him, took hold of his feet, and worshipped him.
Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.”10Then Jesus told them, "Stop being frightened! Go and tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there."
Now while they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all the things that had happened.11While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and told the high priests everything that had happened.
When they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,12So they met with the elders and agreed on a plan to give the soldiers a large amount of money.
saying, “Tell them, ‘His disciples came at night and stole Him away while we slept.’13They said, "Say that Jesus' disciples came at night and stole him while you were sleeping.
And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will appease him and make you secure.”14If this is reported to the governor, we'll personally persuade him to keep you out of trouble."
So they took the money and did as they were instructed; and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.15So the soldiers took the money, did as they were instructed, and this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.
Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them.16The eleven disciples went into Galilee to the hillside to which Jesus had directed them.
When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted.17When they saw him, they worshipped him, though some had doubts.
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.18Then Jesus approached them and told them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,19Therefore, as you go, disciple people in all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.20teaching them to obey everything that I've commanded you. And remember, I am with you each and every day until the end of the age."
