A Prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. | 1A prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, You have been our dwelling place through all generations. |
Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. | 2Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God. |
You turn man to destruction, And say, “Return, O children of men.” | 3You return man to dust, saying, “Return, O sons of mortals.” |
For a thousand years in Your sight Are like yesterday when it is past, And like a watch in the night. | 4For in Your sight a thousand years are but a day that passes, or a watch of the night. |
You carry them away like a flood; They are like a sleep. In the morning they are like grass which grows up: | 5You whisk them away in their sleep; they are like the new grass of the morning— |
In the morning it flourishes and grows up; In the evening it is cut down and withers. | 6in the morning it springs up new, but by evening it fades and withers. |
For we have been consumed by Your anger, And by Your wrath we are terrified. | 7For we are consumed by Your anger and terrified by Your wrath. |
You have set our iniquities before You, Our secret sins in the light of Your countenance. | 8You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your presence. |
For all our days have passed away in Your wrath; We finish our years like a sigh. | 9For all our days decline in Your fury; we finish our years with a sigh. |
The days of our lives are seventy years; And if by reason of strength they are eighty years, Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away. | 10The length of our days is seventy years—or eighty if we are strong—yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away. |
Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath. | 11Who knows the power of Your anger? Your wrath matches the fear You are due. |
So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom. | 12So teach us to number our days, that we may present a heart of wisdom. |
Return, O LORD! How long? And have compassion on Your servants. | 13Return, O LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on Your servants. |
Oh, satisfy us early with Your mercy, That we may rejoice and be glad all our days! | 14Satisfy us in the morning with Your loving devotion, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. |
Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us, The years in which we have seen evil. | 15Make us glad for as many days as You have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen evil. |
Let Your work appear to Your servants, And Your glory to their children. | 16May Your work be shown to Your servants, and Your splendor to their children. |
And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands. | 17May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish for us the work of our hands—yes, establish the work of our hands! |
