| 1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, | 1There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. |
| 2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. | 2For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. |
| 3For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, | 3For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, |
| 4in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. | 4in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. |
| 5Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. | 5For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. |
| 6The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. | 6For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. |
| 7The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. | 7For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. |
| 8Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. | 8Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. |
| 9You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. | 9You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. |

| 21that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. | 21that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. |
| 22We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. | 22For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. |
| 23Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. | 23And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. |
| 24For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? | 24For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? |
| 25But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. | 25But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. |
| 26In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. | 26Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. |
| 27And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God. | 27And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. |
| 28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. | 28And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. |
| 29For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. | 29For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. |
