| 1"When you have experienced all these things, both the blessings and the curses I have set before you, you will reflect upon them in all the nations where the LORD your God has banished you. | 1When all these things happen to you--the blessings and curses I have set before you--and you come to your senses while you are in all the nations where the LORD your God has driven you, |
| 2Then if you and your descendants turn to the LORD your God and obey him with your whole mind and being just as I am commanding you today, | 2and you and your children return to the LORD your God and obey Him with all your heart and all your soul by doing everything I am giving you today, |
| 3the LORD your God will reverse your captivity and have pity on you. He will turn and gather you from all the peoples among whom he has scattered you. | 3then He will restore your fortunes, have compassion on you, and gather you again from all the peoples where the LORD your God has scattered you. |
| 4Even if your exiles are in the most distant land, from there the LORD your God will gather you and bring you back. | 4Even if your exiles are at the ends of the earth, He will gather you and bring you back from there. |
| 5Then he will bring you to the land your ancestors possessed and you also will possess it; he will do better for you and multiply you more than he did your ancestors. | 5The LORD your God will bring you into the land your fathers possessed, and you will take possession of it. He will cause you to prosper and multiply you more than He did your fathers. |

| 9The LORD your God will make the labor of your hands abundantly successful and multiply your children, the offspring of your cattle, and the produce of your soil. For the LORD your God will once more rejoice over you to make you prosperous just as he rejoiced over your ancestors, | 9The LORD your God will make you prosper abundantly in all the work of your hands with children, the offspring of your livestock, and your land's produce. Indeed, the LORD will again delight in your prosperity, as He delighted in that of your fathers, |
| 10if you obey the LORD your God and keep his commandments and statutes that are written in this scroll of the law. But you must turn to him with your whole mind and being. | 10when you obey the LORD your God by keeping His commands and statutes that are written in this book of the law and return to Him with all your heart and all your soul." |
| 11"This commandment I am giving you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it too remote. | 11This command that I give you today is certainly not too difficult or beyond your reach. |
| 12It is not in heaven, as though one must say, "Who will go up to heaven to get it for us and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?" | 12It is not in heaven so that you have to ask, 'Who will go up to heaven, get it for us, and proclaim it to us so that we may follow it?' |
| 13And it is not across the sea, as though one must say, "Who will cross over to the other side of the sea and get it for us and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?" | 13And it is not across the sea so that you have to ask, 'Who will cross the sea, get it for us, and proclaim it to us so that we may follow it?' |
| 14For the thing is very near you--it is in your mouth and in your mind so that you can do it. | 14But the message is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, so that you may follow it. |
| 15"Look! I have set before you today life and prosperity on the one hand, and death and disaster on the other. | 15See, today I have set before you life and prosperity, death and adversity. |
| 16What I am commanding you today is to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to obey his commandments, his statutes, and his ordinances. Then you will live and become numerous and the LORD your God will bless you in the land which you are about to possess. | 16For I am commanding you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commands, statutes, and ordinances, so that you may live and multiply, and the LORD your God may bless you in the land you are entering to possess. |
| 17However, if you turn aside and do not obey, but are lured away to worship and serve other gods, | 17But if your heart turns away and you do not listen and you are led astray to bow down to other gods and worship them, |
| 18I declare to you this very day that you will certainly perish! You will not extend your time in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess. | 18I tell you today that you will certainly perish and will not live long in the land you are entering to possess across the Jordan. |
| 19Today I invoke heaven and earth as a witness against you that I have set life and death, blessing and curse, before you. Therefore choose life so that you and your descendants may live! | 19I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. | 20I also call on you to love the LORD your God, to obey him and be loyal to him, for he gives you life and enables you to live continually in the land the LORD promised to give to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob." | 20love the LORD your God, obey Him, and remain faithful to Him.
