New American Standard Bible 1995 | New International Version |
Let love of the brethren continue. | 1Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. |
Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it. | 2Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. |
Remember the prisoners, as though in prison with them, and those who are ill-treated, since you yourselves also are in the body. | 3Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering. |
Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge. | 4Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. |
Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, "I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU," | 5Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." |
so that we confidently say, "THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME?" | 6So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?" |
Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. | 7Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. |
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. | 8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. |
Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings; for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, through which those who were so occupied were not benefited. | 9Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by eating ceremonial foods, which is of no benefit to those who do so. |
We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle have no right to eat. | 10We have an altar from which those who minister at the tabernacle have no right to eat. |
For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the holy place by the high priest as an offering for sin, are burned outside the camp. | 11The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. |
Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffered outside the gate. | 12And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. |
So, let us go out to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach. | 13Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. |
For here we do not have a lasting city, but we are seeking the city which is to come. | 14For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. |
Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name. | 15Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. |
And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. | 16And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. |
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you. | 17Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you. |
Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a good conscience, desiring to conduct ourselves honorably in all things. | 18Pray for us. We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way. |
And I urge you all the more to do this, so that I may be restored to you the sooner. | 19I particularly urge you to pray so that I may be restored to you soon. |
Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord, | 20Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, |
equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen. | 21equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. |
But I urge you, brethren, bear with this word of exhortation, for I have written to you briefly. | 22Brothers and sisters, I urge you to bear with my word of exhortation, for in fact I have written to you quite briefly. |
Take notice that our brother Timothy has been released, with whom, if he comes soon, I will see you. | 23I want you to know that our brother Timothy has been released. If he arrives soon, I will come with him to see you. |
Greet all of your leaders and all the saints. Those from Italy greet you. | 24Greet all your leaders and all the Lord's people. Those from Italy send you their greetings. |
Grace be with you all. | 25Grace be with you all. |
