To the chief Musician upon Shoshannim, A Psalm of David. Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul.1For the choir director; according to Shoshannim. A Psalm of David. Save me, O God, For the waters have threatened my life.
I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.2I have sunk in deep mire, and there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and a flood overflows me.
I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.3I am weary with my crying; my throat is parched; My eyes fail while I wait for my God.
They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away.4Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head; Those who would destroy me are powerful, being wrongfully my enemies; What I did not steal, I then have to restore.
O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee.5O God, it is You who knows my folly, And my wrongs are not hidden from You.
Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.6May those who wait for You not be ashamed through me, O Lord GOD of hosts; May those who seek You not be dishonored through me, O God of Israel,
Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.7Because for Your sake I have borne reproach; Dishonor has covered my face.
I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children.8I have become estranged from my brothers And an alien to my mother's sons.
For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.9For zeal for Your house has consumed me, And the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.
When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach.10When I wept in my soul with fasting, It became my reproach.
I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them.11When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them.
They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.12Those who sit in the gate talk about me, And I am the song of the drunkards.
But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.13But as for me, my prayer is to You, O LORD, at an acceptable time; O God, in the greatness of Your lovingkindness, Answer me with Your saving truth.
Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.14Deliver me from the mire and do not let me sink; May I be delivered from my foes and from the deep waters.
Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.15May the flood of water not overflow me Nor the deep swallow me up, Nor the pit shut its mouth on me.
Hear me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.16Answer me, O LORD, for Your lovingkindness is good; According to the greatness of Your compassion, turn to me,
And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.17And do not hide Your face from Your servant, For I am in distress; answer me quickly.
Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.18Oh draw near to my soul and redeem it; Ransom me because of my enemies!
Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee.19You know my reproach and my shame and my dishonor; All my adversaries are before You.
Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.20Reproach has broken my heart and I am so sick. And I looked for sympathy, but there was none, And for comforters, but I found none.
They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.21They also gave me gall for my food And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.22May their table before them become a snare; And when they are in peace, may it become a trap.
Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake.23May their eyes grow dim so that they cannot see, And make their loins shake continually.
Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.24Pour out Your indignation on them, And may Your burning anger overtake them.
Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents.25May their camp be desolate; May none dwell in their tents.
For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.26For they have persecuted him whom You Yourself have smitten, And they tell of the pain of those whom You have wounded.
Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness.27Add iniquity to their iniquity, And may they not come into Your righteousness.
Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.28May they be blotted out of the book of life And may they not be recorded with the righteous.
But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.29But I am afflicted and in pain; May Your salvation, O God, set me securely on high.
I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.30I will praise the name of God with song And magnify Him with thanksgiving.
This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.31And it will please the LORD better than an ox Or a young bull with horns and hoofs.
The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.32The humble have seen it and are glad; You who seek God, let your heart revive.
For the LORD heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners.33For the LORD hears the needy And does not despise His who are prisoners.
Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein.34Let heaven and earth praise Him, The seas and everything that moves in them.
For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.35For God will save Zion and build the cities of Judah, That they may dwell there and possess it.
The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.36The descendants of His servants will inherit it, And those who love His name will dwell in it.
