In you, LORD, I have taken refuge. Let me never be ashamed. Because you are righteous, deliver me! | 1O LORD, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. Save me, for you do what is right. |
Listen to me, and deliver me quickly. Become a rock of safety for me, a fortified citadel to deliver me; | 2Turn your ear to listen to me; rescue me quickly. Be my rock of protection, a fortress where I will be safe. |
For you are my rock and my fortress; for the sake of your name guide me and lead me. | 3You are my rock and my fortress. For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger. |
Rescue me from the net that they concealed to trap me; for you are my strength. | 4Pull me from the trap my enemies set for me, for I find protection in you alone. |
Into your hands I commit my spirit; for you have redeemed me, LORD God of truth. | 5I entrust my spirit into your hand. Rescue me, LORD, for you are a faithful God. |
I despise those who trust vain idols; but I have trusted in the LORD. | 6I hate those who worship worthless idols. I trust in the LORD. |
I will rejoice and be glad in your gracious love, for you see my affliction and take note that my soul is distressed. | 7I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul. |
You have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy, but you have set my feet in a sturdy place. | 8You have not handed me over to my enemies but have set me in a safe place. |
Be gracious to me, LORD, for I am in distress. My eyes have been consumed by my grief along with my soul and my body. | 9Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am in distress. Tears blur my eyes. My body and soul are withering away. |
My life is consumed by sorrow, my years with groaning. My strength has faltered because of my iniquity; my bones have been consumed. | 10I am dying from grief; my years are shortened by sadness. Sin has drained my strength; I am wasting away from within. |
I have become an object of reproach to all my enemies, especially to my neighbors. I have become an object of fear to my friends, and whoever sees me outside runs away from me. | 11I am scorned by all my enemies and despised by my neighbors— even my friends are afraid to come near me. When they see me on the street, they run the other way. |
Like a dead man, I am forgotten in their thoughts — like broken pottery. | 12I am ignored as if I were dead, as if I were a broken pot. |
I have heard the slander of many; it is like terror all around me, as they conspire together and plot to take my life. | 13I have heard the many rumors about me, and I am surrounded by terror. My enemies conspire against me, plotting to take my life. |
But I trust in you, LORD. I say, "You are my God." | 14But I am trusting you, O LORD, saying, “You are my God!” |
My times are in your hands. Deliver me from the hands of my enemies and from those who pursue me. | 15My future is in your hands. Rescue me from those who hunt me down relentlessly. |
May your face shine on your servant; in your gracious love, deliver me. | 16Let your favor shine on your servant. In your unfailing love, rescue me. |
Let me not be ashamed, LORD, for I have called upon you. Let the wicked be put to shame, let them be silent in the next life. | 17Don’t let me be disgraced, O LORD, for I call out to you for help. Let the wicked be disgraced; let them lie silent in the grave. |
Let the lying lips be made still, especially those who speak arrogantly against the righteous with pride and contempt. | 18Silence their lying lips— those proud and arrogant lips that accuse the godly. |
How great is your goodness that you have reserved for those who fear you, that you have set in place for those who take refuge in you, in the presence of the children of men. | 19How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world. |
You will hide them in the secret place of your presence, away from the conspiracies of men. You will hide them in your tent, away from their contentious tongues. | 20You hide them in the shelter of your presence, safe from those who conspire against them. You shelter them in your presence, far from accusing tongues. |
Blessed be the LORD! In a marvelous way he demonstrated his gracious love to me, when I was in a city under siege. | 21Praise the LORD, for he has shown me the wonders of his unfailing love. He kept me safe when my city was under attack. |
When I said in my panic, "I have been cut off in your sight," then you surely heard the voice of my prayer in my plea to you for help. | 22In panic I cried out, “I am cut off from the LORD!” But you heard my cry for mercy and answered my call for help. |
Love the LORD, all his godly ones! The LORD preserves the faithful and repays those who act with proud motives. | 23Love the LORD, all you godly ones! For the LORD protects those who are loyal to him, but he harshly punishes the arrogant. |
Be strong, and let your heart be courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD. | 24So be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD! |
