International Standard Version | Berean Study Bible |
Lord, you've been our refuge from generation to generation. | 1A prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, You have been our dwelling place through all generations. |
Before the mountains were formed or the earth and the world were brought forth, you are God from eternity to eternity. | 2Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God. |
You return people to dust merely by saying, "Return, you mortals!" | 3You return man to dust, saying, “Return, O sons of mortals.” |
One thousand years in your sight are but a single day that passes by, just like a night watch. | 4For in Your sight a thousand years are but a day that passes, or a watch of the night. |
You will sweep them away while they are asleep— by morning they are like growing grass. | 5You whisk them away in their sleep; they are like the new grass of the morning— |
In the morning it blossoms and is renewed, but toward evening, it fades and withers. | 6in the morning it springs up new, but by evening it fades and withers. |
Indeed, we are consumed by your anger and terrified by your wrath. | 7For we are consumed by Your anger and terrified by Your wrath. |
You have set our iniquities before you, what we have concealed in the light of your presence. | 8You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your presence. |
All our days pass away in your wrath; our years fade away and end like a sigh. | 9For all our days decline in Your fury; we finish our years with a sigh. |
We live for 70 years, or 80 years if we're healthy, yet even in the prime years there are troubles and sorrow. They pass by quickly and we fly away. | 10The length of our days is seventy years—or eighty if we are strong—yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away. |
Who can know the intensity of your anger? Because our fear of you matches your wrath, | 11Who knows the power of Your anger? Your wrath matches the fear You are due. |
teach us to keep account of our days so we may develop inner wisdom. | 12So teach us to number our days, that we may present a heart of wisdom. |
Please return, LORD! When will it be? Comfort your servants. | 13Return, O LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on Your servants. |
Satisfy us in the morning with your gracious love so we may sing for joy and rejoice every day. | 14Satisfy us in the morning with Your loving devotion, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. |
Cause us to rejoice throughout the time when you have afflicted us, the years when we have known trouble. | 15Make us glad for as many days as You have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen evil. |
May your awesome deeds be revealed to your servants, as well as your splendor to their children. | 16May Your work be shown to Your servants, and Your splendor to their children. |
May your favor be on us, Lord our God; make our endeavors successful; yes, make our endeavors secure! | 17May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish for us the work of our hands—yes, establish the work of our hands! |
