Psalm 31
HCSB Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Holman Christian Standard BibleInternational Standard Version
For the choir director. A Davidic psalm. LORD, I seek refuge in You; let me never be disgraced. Save me by Your righteousness. 1In you, LORD, I have taken refuge. Let me never be ashamed. Because you are righteous, deliver me!
Listen closely to me; rescue me quickly. Be a rock of refuge for me, a mountain fortress to save me. 2Listen to me, and deliver me quickly. Become a rock of safety for me, a fortified citadel to deliver me;
For You are my rock and my fortress; You lead and guide me because of Your name. 3For you are my rock and my fortress; for the sake of your name guide me and lead me.
You will free me from the net that is secretly set for me, for You are my refuge. 4Rescue me from the net that they concealed to trap me; for you are my strength.
Into Your hand I entrust my spirit; You redeem me, LORD, God of truth. 5Into your hands I commit my spirit; for you have redeemed me, LORD God of truth.
I hate those who are devoted to worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD. 6I despise those who trust vain idols; but I have trusted in the LORD.
I will rejoice and be glad in Your faithful love because You have seen my affliction. You have known the troubles of my life 7I will rejoice and be glad in your gracious love, for you see my affliction and take note that my soul is distressed.
and have not handed me over to the enemy. You have set my feet in a spacious place. 8You have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy, but you have set my feet in a sturdy place.
Be gracious to me, LORD, because I am in distress; my eyes are worn out from angry sorrow-- my whole being as well. 9Be gracious to me, LORD, for I am in distress. My eyes have been consumed by my grief along with my soul and my body.
Indeed, my life is consumed with grief and my years with groaning; my strength has failed because of my sinfulness, and my bones waste away. 10My life is consumed by sorrow, my years with groaning. My strength has faltered because of my iniquity; my bones have been consumed.
I am ridiculed by all my adversaries and even by my neighbors. I am dreaded by my acquaintances; those who see me in the street run from me. 11I have become an object of reproach to all my enemies, especially to my neighbors. I have become an object of fear to my friends, and whoever sees me outside runs away from me.
I am forgotten: gone from memory like a dead person--like broken pottery. 12Like a dead man, I am forgotten in their thoughts — like broken pottery.
I have heard the gossip of many; terror is on every side. When they conspired against me, they plotted to take my life. 13I have heard the slander of many; it is like terror all around me, as they conspire together and plot to take my life.
But I trust in You, LORD; I say, "You are my God." 14But I trust in you, LORD. I say, "You are my God."
The course of my life is in Your power; deliver me from the power of my enemies and from my persecutors. 15My times are in your hands. Deliver me from the hands of my enemies and from those who pursue me.
Show Your favor to Your servant; save me by Your faithful love. 16May your face shine on your servant; in your gracious love, deliver me.
LORD, do not let me be disgraced when I call on You. Let the wicked be disgraced; let them be silent in Sheol. 17Let me not be ashamed, LORD, for I have called upon you. Let the wicked be put to shame, let them be silent in the next life.
Let lying lips be quieted; they speak arrogantly against the righteous with pride and contempt. 18Let the lying lips be made still, especially those who speak arrogantly against the righteous with pride and contempt.
How great is Your goodness that You have stored up for those who fear You and accomplished in the sight of everyone for those who take refuge in You. 19How great is your goodness that you have reserved for those who fear you, that you have set in place for those who take refuge in you, in the presence of the children of men.
You hide them in the protection of Your presence; You conceal them in a shelter from the schemes of men, from quarrelsome tongues. 20You will hide them in the secret place of your presence, away from the conspiracies of men. You will hide them in your tent, away from their contentious tongues.
May the LORD be praised, for He has wonderfully shown His faithful love to me in a city under siege. 21Blessed be the LORD! In a marvelous way he demonstrated his gracious love to me, when I was in a city under siege.
In my alarm I had said," I am cut off from Your sight." But You heard the sound of my pleading when I cried to You for help. 22When I said in my panic, "I have been cut off in your sight," then you surely heard the voice of my prayer in my plea to you for help.
Love the LORD, all His faithful ones. The LORD protects the loyal, but fully repays the arrogant. 23Love the LORD, all his godly ones! The LORD preserves the faithful and repays those who act with proud motives.
Be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD. 24Be strong, and let your heart be courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD.
