| 1Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. | 1One afternoon, Peter and John were on their way to the Temple for the three o'clock prayer time. |
| 2And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. | 2Now a man who had been crippled from birth was being carried in. Every day people would lay him at what was called the Beautiful Gate so that he could beg from those who were going into the Temple. |
| 3Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. | 3When he saw that Peter and John were about to go into the Temple, he asked them to give him something. |
| 4And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” | 4Peter, along with John, looked him straight in the eye and said, "Look at us!" |
| 5And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. | 5So the man watched them closely, expecting to get something from them. |
| 6But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” | 6However, Peter said, "I don't have any silver or gold, but I'll give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus the Messiah from Nazareth, walk!" |
| 7And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. | 7Then Peter took hold of his right hand and began to help him up. Immediately his feet and ankles became strong, |
| 8And leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. | 8and he sprang to his feet, stood up, and began to walk. Then he went with them into the Temple, walking, jumping, and praising God. |
| 9And all the people saw him walking and praising God, | 9When all the people saw him walking and praising God, |
| 10and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. | 10they knew that he was the man who used to sit and beg at the Beautiful Gate of the Temple, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. |
| 11While he clung to Peter and John, all the people, utterly astounded, ran together to them in the portico called Solomon’s. | 11While he was holding on to Peter and John, all the people came running to them in what was called "Solomon's Colonnade". They were dumbfounded. |
| 12And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk? | 12When Peter saw this, he told the people: "Fellow Israelis, why are you wondering about this, and why are you staring at us as if by our own power or godliness we made him walk? |
| 13The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him. | 13The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the God of our ancestors—has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you betrayed and rejected in the presence of Pilate, even though he had decided to let him go. |
| 14But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, | 14You rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer released to you, |
| 15and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. | 15and you killed the source of life, whom God raised from the dead. We are witnesses to that. |
| 16And his name—by faith in his name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all. | 16It is his name—that is, by faith in his name—that has healed this man whom you see and know. Yes, the faith that comes through Jesus has given him this perfect health in the presence of all of you. |
| 17“And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. | 17"And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance like your leaders. |
| 18But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled. | 18This is how God fulfilled what he had predicted through the voice of all the prophets—that his Messiah would suffer. |
| 19Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, | 19Therefore, repent and turn to him to have your sins blotted out, |
| 20that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, | 20so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord and so that he may send you Jesus, whom he appointed long ago to be the Messiah. |
| 21whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago. | 21He must remain in heaven until the time of universal restitution, which God announced long ago through the voice of his holy prophets. |
| 22Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you. | 22In fact, Moses said, 'The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to everything he tells you. |
| 23And it shall be that every soul who does not listen to that prophet shall be destroyed from the people.’ | 23Any person who will not listen to that prophet will be utterly destroyed from among the people.' |
| 24And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also proclaimed these days. | 24"Indeed, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who followed him, also announced these days. |
| 25You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’ | 25You are the descendants of the prophets and the heirs of the covenant that God made with your ancestors when he told Abraham, 'Through your descendant all the families of the earth will be blessed.' |
| 26God, having raised up his servant, sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness.” | 26When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning every one of you from your evil ways." |
