Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. | 1One afternoon Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. |
And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. | 2And a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those entering the temple courts. |
Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. | 3When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. |
And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” | 4Peter looked directly at him, as did John. “Look at us!” said Peter. |
And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. | 5So the man gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. |
But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” | 6But Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!” |
And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. | 7Taking him by the right hand, Peter helped him up, and at once the man’s feet and ankles were made strong. |
And leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. | 8He sprang to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and leaping and praising God. |
And all the people saw him walking and praising God, | 9When all the people saw him walking and praising God, |
and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. | 10they recognized him as the man who used to sit begging at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. |
While he clung to Peter and John, all the people, utterly astounded, ran together to them in the portico called Solomon’s. | 11While the man clung to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and ran to them in the walkway called Solomon’s Colonnade. |
And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk? | 12And when Peter saw this, he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why are you surprised by this? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? |
The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him. | 13The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus. You handed Him over and rejected Him before Pilate, even though he had decided to release Him. |
But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, | 14You rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you. |
and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. | 15You killed the Author of life, but God raised Him from the dead, and we are witnesses of the fact. |
And his name—by faith in his name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all. | 16By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know has been made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through Him that has given him this complete healing in your presence. |
“And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. | 17And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders. |
But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled. | 18But in this way God has fulfilled what He foretold through all the prophets, saying that His Christ would suffer. |
Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, | 19Repent, then, and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped away, |
that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, | 20that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus, the Christ, who has been appointed for you. |
whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago. | 21Heaven must take Him in until the time comes for the restoration of all things, which God announced long ago through His holy prophets. |
Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers. You shall listen to him in whatever he tells you. | 22For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to Him in everything He tells you. |
And it shall be that every soul who does not listen to that prophet shall be destroyed from the people.’ | 23Everyone who does not listen to Him will be completely cut off from among his people.’ |
And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also proclaimed these days. | 24Indeed, all the prophets from Samuel on, as many as have spoken, have proclaimed these days. |
You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’ | 25And you are sons of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers when He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all the families of the earth will be blessed.’ |
God, having raised up his servant, sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your wickedness.” | 26When God raised up His Servant, He sent Him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.” |
