1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope,1Παῦλος ἀπόστολος Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ κατ’ ἐπιταγὴν Θεοῦ Σωτῆρος ἡμῶν καὶ Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ τῆς ἐλπίδος ἡμῶν
2To Timothy, my true child in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.2Τιμοθέῳ γνησίῳ τέκνῳ ἐν πίστει Χάρις ἔλεος εἰρήνη ἀπὸ Θεοῦ πατρὸς καὶ Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν
3As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine,3Καθὼς παρεκάλεσά σε προσμεῖναι ἐν Ἐφέσῳ πορευόμενος εἰς Μακεδονίαν ἵνα παραγγείλῃς τισὶν μὴ ἑτεροδιδασκαλεῖν
4nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith.4μηδὲ προσέχειν μύθοις καὶ γενεαλογίαις ἀπεράντοις αἵτινες ἐκζητήσεις παρέχουσιν μᾶλλον ἢ οἰκονομίαν Θεοῦ τὴν ἐν πίστει
5The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.5Τὸ δὲ τέλος τῆς παραγγελίας ἐστὶν ἀγάπη ἐκ καθαρᾶς καρδίας καὶ συνειδήσεως ἀγαθῆς καὶ πίστεως ἀνυποκρίτου
6Certain persons, by swerving from these, have wandered away into vain discussion,6ὧν τινες ἀστοχήσαντες ἐξετράπησαν εἰς ματαιολογίαν
7desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make confident assertions.7θέλοντες εἶναι νομοδιδάσκαλοι μὴ νοοῦντες μήτε ἃ λέγουσιν μήτε περὶ τίνων διαβεβαιοῦνται
8Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully,8Οἴδαμεν δὲ ὅτι καλὸς ὁ νόμος ἐάν τις αὐτῷ νομίμως χρῆται
9understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers,9εἰδὼς τοῦτο ὅτι δικαίῳ νόμος οὐ κεῖται ἀνόμοις δὲ καὶ ἀνυποτάκτοις ἀσεβέσι καὶ ἁμαρτωλοῖς ἀνοσίοις καὶ βεβήλοις πατρολῴαις καὶ μητρολῴαις ἀνδροφόνοις
10the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,10πόρνοις ἀρσενοκοίταις ἀνδραποδισταῖς ψεύσταις ἐπιόρκοις καὶ εἴ τι ἕτερον τῇ ὑγιαινούσῃ διδασκαλίᾳ ἀντίκειται
11in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.11κατὰ τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τῆς δόξης τοῦ μακαρίου Θεοῦ ὃ ἐπιστεύθην ἐγώ
12I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service,12Χάριν ἔχω τῷ ἐνδυναμώσαντί με Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ τῷ Κυρίῳ ἡμῶν ὅτι πιστόν με ἡγήσατο θέμενος εἰς διακονίαν
13though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief,13τὸ πρότερον ὄντα βλάσφημον καὶ διώκτην καὶ ὑβριστήν ἀλλὰ ἠλεήθην ὅτι ἀγνοῶν ἐποίησα ἐν ἀπιστίᾳ
14and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.14ὑπερεπλεόνασεν δὲ ἡ χάρις τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν μετὰ πίστεως καὶ ἀγάπης τῆς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ
15The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.15Πιστὸς ὁ λόγος καὶ πάσης ἀποδοχῆς ἄξιος ὅτι Χριστὸς Ἰησοῦς ἦλθεν εἰς τὸν κόσμον ἁμαρτωλοὺς σῶσαι ὧν πρῶτός εἰμι ἐγώ
16But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.16ἀλλὰ διὰ τοῦτο ἠλεήθην ἵνα ἐν ἐμοὶ πρώτῳ ἐνδείξηται Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς τὴν ἅπασαν μακροθυμίαν πρὸς ὑποτύπωσιν τῶν μελλόντων πιστεύειν ἐπ’ αὐτῷ εἰς ζωὴν αἰώνιον
17To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.17Τῷ δὲ Βασιλεῖ τῶν αἰώνων ἀφθάρτῳ ἀοράτῳ μόνῳ Θεῷ τιμὴ καὶ δόξα εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων ἀμήν
18This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare,18Ταύτην τὴν παραγγελίαν παρατίθεμαί σοι τέκνον Τιμόθεε κατὰ τὰς προαγούσας ἐπὶ σὲ προφητείας ἵνα στρατεύῃ ἐν αὐταῖς τὴν καλὴν στρατείαν
19holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith,19ἔχων πίστιν καὶ ἀγαθὴν συνείδησιν ἥν τινες ἀπωσάμενοι περὶ τὴν πίστιν ἐναυάγησαν
20among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.20ὧν ἐστιν Ὑμέναιος καὶ Ἀλέξανδρος οὓς παρέδωκα τῷ Σατανᾷ ἵνα παιδευθῶσιν μὴ βλασφημεῖν
