The Seventh Seal
1Καὶ (And) ὅταν (when) ἤνοιξεν (He opened) τὴν (the) σφραγῖδα (seal) τὴν (-) ἑβδόμην (seventh), ἐγένετο (there was) σιγὴ (silence) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven) ὡς (for about) ἡμιώριον (half an hour).
2καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) τοὺς (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἀγγέλους (angels) οἳ (who) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἑστήκασιν (stand), καὶ (and) ἐδόθησαν (were given) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἑπτὰ (seven) σάλπιγγες (trumpets).
3Καὶ (And) ἄλλος (another) ἄγγελος (angel) ἦλθεν (came) καὶ (and) ἐστάθη (stood) ἐπὶ (at) τοῦ (the) θυσιαστηρίου (altar), ἔχων (having) λιβανωτὸν (a censer) χρυσοῦν (golden); καὶ (and) ἐδόθη (was given) αὐτῷ (to him) θυμιάματα (incense) πολλὰ (much), ἵνα (that) δώσει (he will offer it) ταῖς (with the) προσευχαῖς (prayers) τῶν (of the) ἁγίων (saints) πάντων (all) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸ (the) θυσιαστήριον (altar) τὸ (-) χρυσοῦν (golden) τὸ (-) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne).
4καὶ (And) ἀνέβη (went up) ὁ (the) καπνὸς (smoke) τῶν (of the) θυμιαμάτων (incense) ταῖς (with the) προσευχαῖς (prayers) τῶν (of the) ἁγίων (saints) ἐκ (out of) χειρὸς (the hand) τοῦ (of the) ἀγγέλου (angel), ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God).
5Καὶ (And) εἴληφεν (took) ὁ (the) ἄγγελος (angel) τὸν (the) λιβανωτόν (censer), καὶ (and) ἐγέμισεν (filled) αὐτὸν (it) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (the) πυρὸς (fire) τοῦ (of the) θυσιαστηρίου (altar), καὶ (and) ἔβαλεν (cast it) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth); καὶ (and) ἐγένοντο (there were) βρονταὶ (thunders), καὶ (and) φωναὶ (rumblings), καὶ (and) ἀστραπαὶ (flashes of lightning), καὶ (and) σεισμός (an earthquake).
The First Four Trumpets
6Καὶ (And) οἱ (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἄγγελοι (angels) οἱ (-) ἔχοντες (having) τὰς (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) σάλπιγγας (trumpets) ἡτοίμασαν (prepared) αὑτοὺς (themselves) ἵνα (that) σαλπίσωσιν (they might sound the trumpets).
7Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) πρῶτος (first) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) ἐγένετο (there was) χάλαζα (hail), καὶ (and) πῦρ (fire) μεμιγμένα (having been mixed) ἐν (with) αἵματι (blood), καὶ (and) ἐβλήθη (it was cast) εἰς (upon) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth). καὶ (And) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῆς (of) γῆς (the earth) κατεκάη (was burned up), καὶ (and) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of the) δένδρων (trees) κατεκάη (were burned up), καὶ (and) πᾶς (all) χόρτος (the grass) χλωρὸς (green) κατεκάη (was burned up).
8Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) δεύτερος (second) ἄγγελος (angel) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) ὡς (something like) ὄρος (a mountain) μέγα (great), πυρὶ (with fire) καιόμενον (burning), ἐβλήθη (was cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea). καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (became) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῆς (of the) θαλάσσης (sea) αἷμα (blood),
9καὶ (and) ἀπέθανεν (died) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of the) κτισμάτων (creatures) τῶν (-) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) θαλάσσῃ (sea) τὰ (-) ἔχοντα (having) ψυχάς (life), καὶ (and) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of the) πλοίων (ships) διεφθάρησαν (were destroyed).
10Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) τρίτος (third) ἄγγελος (angel) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) ἔπεσεν (fell) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) ἀστὴρ (a star) μέγας (great), καιόμενος (burning) ὡς (like) λαμπάς (a torch). καὶ (And) ἔπεσεν (it fell) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of the) ποταμῶν (rivers), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (upon) τὰς (the) πηγὰς (springs) τῶν (of) ὑδάτων (waters).
11καὶ (And) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τοῦ (of the) ἀστέρος (star) λέγεται (is called) Ὁ (-) Ἄψινθος (Wormwood). καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (became) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of the) ὑδάτων (waters) εἰς (into) ἄψινθον (wormwood), καὶ (and) πολλοὶ (many) τῶν (of the) ἀνθρώπων (men) ἀπέθανον (died) ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) ὑδάτων (waters), ὅτι (because) ἐπικράνθησαν (they were made bitter).
12Καὶ (And) ὁ (the) τέταρτος (fourth) ἄγγελος (angel) ἐσάλπισεν (sounded his trumpet), καὶ (and) ἐπλήγη (was struck) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τοῦ (of the) ἡλίου (sun), καὶ (and) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῆς (of the) σελήνης (moon), καὶ (and) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) τῶν (of the) ἀστέρων (stars), ἵνα (so that) σκοτισθῇ (should be darkened) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ἡμέρα (day) μὴ (not) φάνῃ (should appear for) τὸ (a) τρίτον (third) αὐτῆς (of it), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) νὺξ (night) ὁμοίως (likewise).
13Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I looked), καὶ (and) ἤκουσα (I heard) ἑνὸς (one) ἀετοῦ (eagle) πετομένου (flying) ἐν (in) μεσουρανήματι (mid-heaven), λέγοντος (saying) φωνῇ (in a voice) μεγάλῃ (loud), “Οὐαὶ (Woe)! οὐαὶ (Woe)! οὐαὶ (Woe) τοὺς (to those) κατοικοῦντας (dwelling) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), ἐκ (because of) τῶν (the) λοιπῶν (remaining) φωνῶν (voices) τῆς (of the) σάλπιγγος (trumpet) τῶν (of the) τριῶν (three) ἀγγέλων (angels) τῶν (-) μελλόντων (being about) σαλπίζειν (to sound their trumpets)!”
