1Now after these things, the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them two by two before His face, into every city and place where He Himself was about to come. 2And so He said to them, "The harvest is indeed great, but the workmen are few. Therefore, beseech the Lord of the harvest that He may send out workmen into His harvest. 3Go forth! Behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. 4Carry no purse, nor provision bag, nor sandals, and do not salute anyone on the way. 5But whatever house you may enter, first say, 'Peace be to this house. ' 6And if indeed a son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it; but if, on the other hand, it be not so, your peace shall return to you. 7And lodge in the same house, eating and drinking that which is supplied by them; for the workman is worthy of his hire. Do not move from house to house. 8And whatever city you may enter, and they receive you, eat the things set before you, 9And heal the sick in it, and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has drawn near to you. ' 10But whatever city you may enter, and they do not receive you, go into the streets and say, 11'Even the dust of your city, which clings to us, we wipe off against you; yet know this, that the kingdom of God has drawn near to you. ' 12For I tell you, it shall be more tolerable for Sodom in that day than for that city. 13Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which have been taking place in you had taken place in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you. 15And you, Capernaum, who have been lifted up to heaven, shall be brought down to the grave. 16The one who hears you hears Me; and the one who rejects you rejects Me; and the one who rejects Me rejects Him Who sent Me." 17Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us through Your name." 18And He said to them, "I was watching when Satan fell from heaven like lightning. 19Behold, I give you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and upon all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall injure you in any way. 20Yet do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven." 21In the same hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit, and said, "I praise You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You did hide these things from the wise and intelligent, and did reveal them to babes. Yes, Father, for it was well pleasing in Your sight to do so." 22Then He turned to the disciples and said, "All things were delivered to Me by My Father; and no one knows Who the Son is, except the Father; and Who the Father is, except the Son, and the one to whom the Son personally chooses to reveal Him." 23And He turned to His disciples and said privately, "Blessed are the eyes that have seen the things that you see. 24For I tell you, many prophets and kings have desired to see the things that you see, and have not seen them; and to hear the things that you hear, and have not heard them." 25Now a certain doctor of the law suddenly stood up, tempting Him and saying, "Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" 26And He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read it?" 27Then he answered and said, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." 28And He said to him, "You have answered correctly. Do this, and you shall live." 29But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" 30And taking it up, Jesus said, "A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and was encircled by thieves; and after they had stripped him of his goods and inflicted him with wounds, they went away, leaving him half dead. 31Now by coincidence, a certain priest went down that road; and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side. 32And in like manner also, a Levite, when he was at the place, came and saw him, and passed by on the opposite side. 33But a certain Samaritan, as he was journeying, came to him; and when he saw him, he was moved with compassion. 34And he went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he put him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35And when he left on the next day, he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, 'Take care of him, and whatever you may expend above this, I will repay you when I come back. ' 36Therefore, which of these three seems to you to have been a neighbor of him who fell among the thieves?" 37And he said, "The one who showed compassion toward him." Then Jesus said to him, "You go and do likewise." 38Now it came to pass as they were going that He came into a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha received Him into her house. 39And she had a sister called Mary, who sat down at Jesus' feet and was listening to His message. 40But Martha was distracted because of much serving; and she came to Jesus and said, "Lord, is it of no concern to You that my sister has left me to serve alone? Now then, speak to her, so that she will help me." 41Then Jesus answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are full of care and troubled about many things; 42But there is one need above all else; and Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken from her."
