Psalm 31
NLT Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationEnglish Standard Version
O LORD, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. Save me, for you do what is right.1In you, O LORD, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me!
Turn your ear to listen to me; rescue me quickly. Be my rock of protection, a fortress where I will be safe.2Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily! Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me!
You are my rock and my fortress. For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger.3For you are my rock and my fortress; and for your name’s sake you lead me and guide me;
Pull me from the trap my enemies set for me, for I find protection in you alone.4you take me out of the net they have hidden for me, for you are my refuge.
I entrust my spirit into your hand. Rescue me, LORD, for you are a faithful God.5Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God.
I hate those who worship worthless idols. I trust in the LORD.6I hate those who pay regard to worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD.
I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul.7I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love, because you have seen my affliction; you have known the distress of my soul,
You have not handed me over to my enemies but have set me in a safe place.8and you have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy; you have set my feet in a broad place.
Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am in distress. Tears blur my eyes. My body and soul are withering away.9Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eye is wasted from grief; my soul and my body also.
I am dying from grief; my years are shortened by sadness. Sin has drained my strength; I am wasting away from within.10For my life is spent with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away.
I am scorned by all my enemies and despised by my neighbors— even my friends are afraid to come near me. When they see me on the street, they run the other way.11Because of all my adversaries I have become a reproach, especially to my neighbors, and an object of dread to my acquaintances; those who see me in the street flee from me.
I am ignored as if I were dead, as if I were a broken pot.12I have been forgotten like one who is dead; I have become like a broken vessel.
I have heard the many rumors about me, and I am surrounded by terror. My enemies conspire against me, plotting to take my life.13For I hear the whispering of many— terror on every side!— as they scheme together against me, as they plot to take my life.
But I am trusting you, O LORD, saying, “You are my God!”14But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.”
My future is in your hands. Rescue me from those who hunt me down relentlessly.15My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!
Let your favor shine on your servant. In your unfailing love, rescue me.16Make your face shine on your servant; save me in your steadfast love!
Don’t let me be disgraced, O LORD, for I call out to you for help. Let the wicked be disgraced; let them lie silent in the grave.17O LORD, let me not be put to shame, for I call upon you; let the wicked be put to shame; let them go silently to Sheol.
Silence their lying lips— those proud and arrogant lips that accuse the godly.18Let the lying lips be mute, which speak insolently against the righteous in pride and contempt.
How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world.19Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind!
You hide them in the shelter of your presence, safe from those who conspire against them. You shelter them in your presence, far from accusing tongues.20In the cover of your presence you hide them from the plots of men; you store them in your shelter from the strife of tongues.
Praise the LORD, for he has shown me the wonders of his unfailing love. He kept me safe when my city was under attack.21Blessed be the LORD, for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me when I was in a besieged city.
In panic I cried out, “I am cut off from the LORD!” But you heard my cry for mercy and answered my call for help.22I had said in my alarm, “I am cut off from your sight.” But you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy when I cried to you for help.
Love the LORD, all you godly ones! For the LORD protects those who are loyal to him, but he harshly punishes the arrogant.23Love the LORD, all you his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride.
So be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD!24Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!
