New King James VersionInternational Standard Version
But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:1But as for you, teach what is consistent with healthy doctrine.
that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience;2Older men are to be sober, serious, sensible, and sound in faith, love, and endurance.
the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things—3Likewise, older women are to show their reverence for God by their behavior. They are not to be gossips or addicted to alcohol, but to be examples of goodness.
that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,4They should encourage the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children,
to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.5to be sensible and pure, to manage their households, to be kind, and to submit themselves to their husbands. Otherwise, the word of God may be discredited.
Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded,6Likewise, encourage the younger men to be sensible.
in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,7Always set an example for others by doing good actions. Teach with integrity and dignity.
sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.8Use wholesome speech that cannot be condemned. Then any opponent will be ashamed because he cannot say anything bad about us.
Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back,9Slaves are to submit to their masters in everything, aiming to please them and not argue with them
not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.10or steal from them. Instead, they are to show complete and perfect loyalty, so that in every way they may make the teaching about God our Savior more attractive.
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people.
teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,12It trains us to renounce ungodly living and worldly passions so that we might live sensible, honest, and godly lives in the present age
looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,13as we wait for the blessed hope and glorious appearance of our great God and Savior, Jesus the Messiah.
who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.14He gave himself for us to set us free from every wrong and to cleanse us so that we could be his special people who are enthusiastic about doing good deeds.
Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.15These are the things you should teach. Encourage and refute with full authority. Do not let anyone look down on you.
