New King James Version | New American Standard Bible 1995 |
But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: | 1But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine. |
that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; | 2Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance. |
the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— | 3Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, |
that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, | 4so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, |
to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. | 5to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored. |
Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, | 6Likewise urge the young men to be sensible; |
in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, | 7in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, |
sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you. | 8sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us. |
Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back, | 9Urge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, |
not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things. | 10not pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect. |
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, | 11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, |
teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, | 12instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, |
looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, | 13looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, |
who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. | 14who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. |
Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you. | 15These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you. |
