But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:1But you are to proclaim things consistent with sound teaching.
that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience;2Older men are to be self-controlled, worthy of respect, sensible, and sound in faith, love, and endurance.
the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things—3In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not slaves to excessive drinking. They are to teach what is good,
that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,4so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children,
to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.5to be self-controlled, pure, workers at home, kind, and in submission to their husbands, so that God's word will not be slandered.
Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded,6In the same way, encourage the young men to be self-controlled
in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,7in everything. Make yourself an example of good works with integrity and dignity in your teaching.
sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.8Your message is to be sound beyond reproach, so that any opponent will be ashamed, because he doesn't have anything bad to say about us.
Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back,9Slaves are to submit to their masters in everything, and to be well-pleasing, not talking back
not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.10or stealing, but demonstrating utter faithfulness, so that they may adorn the teaching of God our Savior in everything.
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,
teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,12instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible, righteous, and godly way in the present age,
looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,13while we wait for the blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.14He gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for himself a people for his own possession, eager to do good works.
Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.15Proclaim these things; encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you.
