New King James Version | Christian Standard Bible |
But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: | 1But you are to proclaim things consistent with sound teaching. |
that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; | 2Older men are to be self-controlled, worthy of respect, sensible, and sound in faith, love, and endurance. |
the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— | 3In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not slaves to excessive drinking. They are to teach what is good, |
that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, | 4so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children, |
to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. | 5to be self-controlled, pure, workers at home, kind, and in submission to their husbands, so that God's word will not be slandered. |
Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, | 6In the same way, encourage the young men to be self-controlled |
in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, | 7in everything. Make yourself an example of good works with integrity and dignity in your teaching. |
sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you. | 8Your message is to be sound beyond reproach, so that any opponent will be ashamed, because he doesn't have anything bad to say about us. |
Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back, | 9Slaves are to submit to their masters in everything, and to be well-pleasing, not talking back |
not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things. | 10or stealing, but demonstrating utter faithfulness, so that they may adorn the teaching of God our Savior in everything. |
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, | 11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, |
teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, | 12instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible, righteous, and godly way in the present age, |
looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, | 13while we wait for the blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. |
who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. | 14He gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for himself a people for his own possession, eager to do good works. |
Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you. | 15Proclaim these things; encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you. |
