But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:1But as for you, communicate the behavior that goes with sound teaching.
that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience;2Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in endurance.
the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things—3Older women likewise are to exhibit behavior fitting for those who are holy, not slandering, not slaves to excessive drinking, but teaching what is good.
that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,4In this way they will train the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children,
to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.5to be self-controlled, pure, fulfilling their duties at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the message of God may not be discredited.
Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded,6Encourage younger men likewise to be self-controlled,
in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,7showing yourself to be an example of good works in every way. In your teaching show integrity, dignity,
sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.8and a sound message that cannot be criticized, so that any opponent will be at a loss, because he has nothing evil to say about us.
Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back,9Slaves are to be subject to their own masters in everything, to do what is wanted and not talk back,
not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.10not pilfering, but showing all good faith, in order to bring credit to the teaching of God our Savior in everything.
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people.
teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,12It trains us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,13as we wait for the happy fulfillment of our hope in the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.14He gave himself for us to set us free from every kind of lawlessness and to purify for himself a people who are truly his, who are eager to do good.
Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.15So communicate these things with the sort of exhortation or rebuke that carries full authority. Don't let anyone look down on you.
