New King James Version | English Standard Version |
But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: | 1But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine. |
that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; | 2Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. |
the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— | 3Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, |
that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, | 4and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, |
to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. | 5to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled. |
Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, | 6Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. |
in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, | 7Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, |
sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you. | 8and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us. |
Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back, | 9Bondservants are to be submissive to their own masters in everything; they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, |
not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things. | 10not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior. |
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, | 11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, |
teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, | 12training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, |
looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, | 13waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, |
who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. | 14who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. |
Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you. | 15Declare these things; exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you. |
