New King James Version | Berean Study Bible |
But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: | 1But as for you, speak the things that are consistent with sound doctrine. |
that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; | 2Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, and sound in faith, love, and perseverance. |
the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— | 3Older women, likewise, are to be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers or addicted to much wine, but teachers of good. |
that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, | 4In this way they can train the young women to love their husbands and children, |
to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. | 5to be self-controlled, pure, managers of their households, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be discredited. |
Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, | 6In the same way, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. |
in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, | 7In everything, show yourself to be an example by doing good works. In your teaching show integrity, dignity, |
sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you. | 8and wholesome speech that is above reproach, so that anyone who opposes us will be ashamed to have nothing bad to say about us. |
Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back, | 9Slaves are to submit to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, |
not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things. | 10not stealing from them, but showing all good faith, so that in every respect they will adorn the teaching about God our Savior. |
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, | 11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to everyone. |
teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, | 12It instructs us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives in the present age, |
looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, | 13as we await the blessed hope and glorious appearance of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. |
who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. | 14He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. |
Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you. | 15Speak these things as you encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you. |
