| 2“Command the children of Israel that they bring to you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to make the lamps burn continually. | 2"Command the Israelites to bring you pure oil from crushed olives for the light, in order to keep the lamp burning regularly. |
| 3Outside the veil of the Testimony, in the tabernacle of meeting, Aaron shall be in charge of it from evening until morning before the LORD continually; it shall be a statute forever in your generations. | 3Aaron is to tend it continually from evening until morning before the LORD outside the curtain of the testimony in the tent of meeting. This is a permanent statute throughout your generations. |
| 4He shall be in charge of the lamps on the pure gold lampstand before the LORD continually. | 4He must continually tend the lamps on the pure gold lampstand in the LORD's presence. |
| 5“And you shall take fine flour and bake twelve cakes with it. Two-tenths of an ephah shall be in each cake. | 5"Take fine flour and bake it into twelve loaves; each loaf is to be made with four quarts. |
| 6You shall set them in two rows, six in a row, on the pure gold table before the LORD. | 6Arrange them in two rows, six to a row, on the pure gold table before the LORD. |
| 7And you shall put pure frankincense on each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, an offering made by fire to the LORD. | 7Place pure frankincense near each row, so that it may serve as a memorial portion for the bread and a fire offering to the LORD. |
| 8Every Sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant. | 8The bread is to be set out before the LORD every Sabbath day as a permanent covenant obligation on the part of the Israelites. |
| 9And it shall be for Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a holy place; for it is most holy to him from the offerings of the LORD made by fire, by a perpetual statute.” | 9It belongs to Aaron and his sons, who are to eat it in a holy place, for it is the holiest portion for him from the fire offerings to the LORD; this is a permanent rule." |
| 10Now the son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel; and this Israelite woman’s son and a man of Israel fought each other in the camp. | 10Now the son of an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father was among the Israelites. A fight broke out in the camp between the Israelite woman's son and an Israelite man. |
| 11And the Israelite woman’s son blasphemed the name of the LORD and cursed; and so they brought him to Moses. (His mother’s name was Shelomith the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.) | 11Her son cursed and blasphemed the Name, and they brought him to Moses. | 12Then they put him in custody, that the mind of the LORD might be shown to them. | 12They put him in custody until the LORD's decision could be made clear to them. |
| 13And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, | 13Then the LORD spoke to Moses: |
| 14“Take outside the camp him who has cursed; then let all who heard him lay their hands on his head, and let all the congregation stone him. | 14"Bring the one who has cursed to the outside of the camp and have all who heard him lay their hands on his head; then have the whole community stone him. |
| 15“Then you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘Whoever curses his God shall bear his sin. | 15And tell the Israelites: If anyone curses his God, he will bear the consequences of his sin. |
| 16And whoever blasphemes the name of the LORD shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall certainly stone him, the stranger as well as him who is born in the land. When he blasphemes the name of the LORD, he shall be put to death. | 16Whoever blasphemes the name of the LORD must be put to death; the whole community is to stone him. If he blasphemes the Name, he is to be put to death, whether the resident alien or the native. |
| 17‘Whoever kills any man shall surely be put to death. | 17"If a man kills anyone, he must be put to death. |
| 18Whoever kills an animal shall make it good, animal for animal. | 18Whoever kills an animal is to make restitution for it, life for life. |
| 19‘If a man causes disfigurement of his neighbor, as he has done, so shall it be done to him— | 19If any man inflicts a permanent injury on his neighbor, whatever he has done is to be done to him: |
| 20fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he has caused disfigurement of a man, so shall it be done to him. | 20fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. Whatever injury he inflicted on the person, the same is to be inflicted on him. |
| 21And whoever kills an animal shall restore it; but whoever kills a man shall be put to death. | 21Whoever kills an animal is to make restitution for it, but whoever kills a person is to be put to death. |
| 22You shall have the same law for the stranger and for one from your own country; for I am the LORD your God.’ ” | 22You are to have the same law for the resident alien and the native, because I am the LORD your God." |
| 23Then Moses spoke to the children of Israel; and they took outside the camp him who had cursed, and stoned him with stones. So the children of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses. | 23After Moses spoke to the Israelites, they brought the one who had cursed to the outside of the camp and stoned him. So the Israelites did as the LORD had commanded Moses. |
