“For behold, in those days and at that time, When I bring back the captives of Judah and Jerusalem, | 1Yes, in those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, |
I will also gather all nations, And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; And I will enter into judgment with them there On account of My people, My heritage Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; They have also divided up My land. | 2I will gather all the nations and take them to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. I will enter into judgment with them there because of my people, my inheritance Israel. The nations have scattered the Israelites in foreign countries and divided up my land. |
They have cast lots for My people, Have given a boy as payment for a harlot, And sold a girl for wine, that they may drink. | 3They cast lots for my people; they bartered a boy for a prostitute and sold a girl for wine to drink. |
“Indeed, what have you to do with Me, O Tyre and Sidon, and all the coasts of Philistia? Will you retaliate against Me? But if you retaliate against Me, Swiftly and speedily I will return your retaliation upon your own head; | 4And also: Tyre, Sidon, and all the territories of Philistia--what are you to me? Are you paying me back or trying to get even with me? I will quickly bring retribution on your heads. |
Because you have taken My silver and My gold, And have carried into your temples My prized possessions. | 5For you took my silver and gold and carried my finest treasures to your temples. |
Also the people of Judah and the people of Jerusalem You have sold to the Greeks, That you may remove them far from their borders. | 6You sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks to remove them far from their own territory. |
“Behold, I will raise them Out of the place to which you have sold them, And will return your retaliation upon your own head. | 7Look, I am about to rouse them up from the place where you sold them; I will bring retribution on your heads. |
I will sell your sons and your daughters Into the hand of the people of Judah, And they will sell them to the Sabeans, To a people far off; For the LORD has spoken.” | 8I will sell your sons and daughters to the people of Judah, and they will sell them to the Sabeans, to a distant nation, for the LORD has spoken. |
Proclaim this among the nations: “Prepare for war! Wake up the mighty men, Let all the men of war draw near, Let them come up. | 9Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare for holy war; rouse the warriors; let all the men of war advance and attack! |
Beat your plowshares into swords And your pruning hooks into spears; Let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’ ” | 10Beat your plows into swords and your pruning knives into spears. Let even the weakling say, "I am a warrior." |
Assemble and come, all you nations, And gather together all around. Cause Your mighty ones to go down there, O LORD. | 11Come quickly, all you surrounding nations; gather yourselves. Bring down your warriors there, LORD. |
“Let the nations be wakened, and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; For there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations. | 12Let the nations be roused and come to the Valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I will sit down to judge all the surrounding nations. |
Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, go down; For the winepress is full, The vats overflow— For their wickedness is great.” | 13Swing the sickle because the harvest is ripe. Come and trample the grapes because the winepress is full; the wine vats overflow because the wickedness of the nations is extreme. |
Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. | 14Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. |
The sun and moon will grow dark, And the stars will diminish their brightness. | 15The sun and moon will grow dark, and the stars will cease their shining. |
The LORD also will roar from Zion, And utter His voice from Jerusalem; The heavens and earth will shake; But the LORD will be a shelter for His people, And the strength of the children of Israel. | 16The LORD will roar from Zion and make his voice heard from Jerusalem; heaven and earth will shake. But the LORD will be a refuge for his people, a stronghold for the Israelites. |
“So you shall know that I am the LORD your God, Dwelling in Zion My holy mountain. Then Jerusalem shall be holy, And no aliens shall ever pass through her again.” | 17Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who dwells in Zion, my holy mountain. Jerusalem will be holy, and foreigners will never overrun it again. |
And it will come to pass in that day That the mountains shall drip with new wine, The hills shall flow with milk, And all the brooks of Judah shall be flooded with water; A fountain shall flow from the house of the LORD And water the Valley of Acacias. | 18In that day the mountains will drip with sweet wine, and the hills will flow with milk. All the streams of Judah will flow with water, and a spring will issue from the LORD's house, watering the Valley of Acacias. |
“Egypt shall be a desolation, And Edom a desolate wilderness, Because of violence against the people of Judah, For they have shed innocent blood in their land. | 19Egypt will become desolate, and Edom a desert wasteland, because of the violence done to the people of Judah in whose land they shed innocent blood. |
But Judah shall abide forever, And Jerusalem from generation to generation. | 20But Judah will be inhabited forever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation. |
For I will acquit them of the guilt of bloodshed, whom I had not acquitted; For the LORD dwells in Zion.” | 21I will pardon their bloodguilt, which I have not pardoned, for the LORD dwells in Zion. |
