New King James Version | Christian Standard Bible |
Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. | 1For freedom, Christ set us free. Stand firm then and don't submit again to a yoke of slavery. |
Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. | 2Take note! I, Paul, am telling you that if you get yourselves circumcised, Christ will not benefit you at all. |
And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law. | 3Again I testify to every man who gets himself circumcised that he is obligated to do the entire law. |
You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. | 4You who are trying to be justified by the law are alienated from Christ; you have fallen from grace. |
For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. | 5For we eagerly await through the Spirit, by faith, the hope of righteousness. |
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love. | 6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision accomplishes anything; what matters is faith working through love. |
You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? | 7You were running well. Who prevented you from being persuaded regarding the truth? |
This persuasion does not come from Him who calls you. | 8This persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. |
A little leaven leavens the whole lump. | 9A little leaven leavens the whole batch of dough. |
I have confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will have no other mind; but he who troubles you shall bear his judgment, whoever he is. | 10I myself am persuaded in the Lord you will not accept any other view. But whoever it is that is confusing you will pay the penalty. |
And I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why do I still suffer persecution? Then the offense of the cross has ceased. | 11Now brothers and sisters, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. |
I could wish that those who trouble you would even cut themselves off! | 12I wish those who are disturbing you might also let themselves be mutilated! |
For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. | 13For you were called to be free, brothers and sisters; only don't use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love. |
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” | 14For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement: Love your neighbor as yourself. |
But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another! | 15But if you bite and devour one another, watch out, or you will be consumed by one another. |
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. | 16I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will certainly not carry out the desire of the flesh. |
For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. | 17For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don't do what you want. |
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. | 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. |
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, | 19Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, |
idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, | 20idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, |
envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. | 21envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I am warning you about these things--as I warned you before--that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. |
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, | 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, |
gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. | 23gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things. |
And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. | 24Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. |
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. | 25If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. |
Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. | 26Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. |
