| 1There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. | 1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, |
| 2For the law of the life-giving Spirit in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death. | 2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. |
| 3For God achieved what the law could not do because it was weakened through the flesh. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, | 3For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, |
| 4so that the righteous requirement of the law may be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. | 4in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. |
| 5For those who live according to the flesh have their outlook shaped by the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit have their outlook shaped by the things of the Spirit. | 5Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. |

| 12So then, brothers and sisters, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh | 12Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation--but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. |

| 22For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers together until now. | 22We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. |
| 23Not only this, but we ourselves also, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we eagerly await our adoption, the redemption of our bodies. | 23Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. |
