New American Standard Bible 1995 | New International Version |
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, | 1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, |
through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. | 2through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. |
And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; | 3Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; |
and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; | 4perseverance, character; and character, hope. |
and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. | 5And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. |
For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. | 6You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. |
For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. | 7Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. |
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. | 8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. |
Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. | 9Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! |
For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. | 10For if, while we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! |
And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. | 11Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. |
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned-- | 12Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned-- |
for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. | 13To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone's account where there is no law. |
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. | 14Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come. |
But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many. | 15But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! |
The gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned; for on the one hand the judgment arose from one transgression resulting in condemnation, but on the other hand the free gift arose from many transgressions resulting in justification. | 16Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. |
For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. | 17For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! |
So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men. | 18Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. |
For as through the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous. | 19For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous. |
The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, | 20The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, |
so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. | 21so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. |
