"For behold, in those days and at that time, When I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, | 1For look! In those days and at that time I will return the exiles to Judah and Jerusalem. |
I will gather all the nations And bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; And they have divided up My land. | 2Then I will gather all the nations, and bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. I will enter into judgment against them there concerning my people Israel who are my inheritance, whom they scattered among the nations. They partitioned my land, |
"They have also cast lots for My people, Traded a boy for a harlot And sold a girl for wine that they may drink. | 3and they cast lots for my people. They traded a boy for a prostitute; they sold a little girl for wine so they could drink. |
"Moreover, what are you to Me, O Tyre, Sidon and all the regions of Philistia? Are you rendering Me a recompense? But if you do recompense Me, swiftly and speedily I will return your recompense on your head. | 4Why are you doing these things to me, Tyre and Sidon? Are you trying to get even with me, land of Philistia? I will very quickly repay you for what you have done! |
"Since you have taken My silver and My gold, brought My precious treasures to your temples, | 5For you took my silver and my gold and brought my precious valuables to your own palaces. |
and sold the sons of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks in order to remove them far from their territory, | 6You sold Judeans and Jerusalemites to the Greeks, removing them far from their own country. |
behold, I am going to arouse them from the place where you have sold them, and return your recompense on your head. | 7Look! I am rousing them from that place to which you sold them. I will repay you for what you have done! |
"Also I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the sons of Judah, and they will sell them to the Sabeans, to a distant nation," for the LORD has spoken. | 8I will sell your sons and daughters to the people of Judah. They will sell them to the Sabeans, a nation far away. Indeed, the LORD has spoken! |
Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare a war; rouse the mighty men! Let all the soldiers draw near, let them come up! | 9Proclaim this among the nations: "Prepare for a holy war! Call out the warriors! Let all these fighting men approach and attack! |
Beat your plowshares into swords And your pruning hooks into spears; Let the weak say, "I am a mighty man." | 10Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears! Let the weak say, 'I too am a warrior!' |
Hasten and come, all you surrounding nations, And gather yourselves there. Bring down, O LORD, Your mighty ones. | 11Lend your aid and come, all you surrounding nations, and gather yourselves to that place." Bring down, O LORD, your warriors! |
Let the nations be aroused And come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat, For there I will sit to judge All the surrounding nations. | 12Let the nations be roused and let them go up to the valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I will sit in judgment on all the surrounding nations. |
Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, tread, for the wine press is full; The vats overflow, for their wickedness is great. | 13Rush forth with the sickle, for the harvest is ripe! Come, stomp the grapes, for the winepress is full! The vats overflow. Indeed, their evil is great! |
Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. | 14Crowds, great crowds are in the valley of decision, for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision! |
The sun and moon grow dark And the stars lose their brightness. | 15The sun and moon are darkened; the stars withhold their brightness. |
The LORD roars from Zion And utters His voice from Jerusalem, And the heavens and the earth tremble. But the LORD is a refuge for His people And a stronghold to the sons of Israel. | 16The LORD roars from Zion; from Jerusalem his voice bellows out. The heavens and the earth shake. But the LORD is a refuge for his people; he is a stronghold for the citizens of Israel. |
Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, Dwelling in Zion, My holy mountain. So Jerusalem will be holy, And strangers will pass through it no more. | 17You will be convinced that I the LORD am your God, dwelling on Zion, my holy mountain. Jerusalem will be holy--conquering armies will no longer pass through it. |
And in that day The mountains will drip with sweet wine, And the hills will flow with milk, And all the brooks of Judah will flow with water; And a spring will go out from the house of the LORD To water the valley of Shittim. | 18On that day the mountains will drip with sweet wine, and the hills will flow with milk. All the dry stream beds of Judah will flow with water. A spring will flow out from the temple of the LORD, watering the Valley of Acacia Trees. |
Egypt will become a waste, And Edom will become a desolate wilderness, Because of the violence done to the sons of Judah, In whose land they have shed innocent blood. | 19Egypt will be desolate and Edom will be a desolate wilderness, because of the violence they did to the people of Judah, in whose land they shed innocent blood. |
But Judah will be inhabited forever And Jerusalem for all generations. | 20But Judah will reside securely forever, and Jerusalem will be secure from one generation to the next. |
And I will avenge their blood which I have not avenged, For the LORD dwells in Zion. | 21I will avenge their blood which I had not previously acquitted. It is the LORD who dwells in Zion! |
