King James Bible | English Standard Version |
Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city! | 1Woe to her who is rebellious and defiled, the oppressing city! |
She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the LORD; she drew not near to her God. | 2She listens to no voice; she accepts no correction. She does not trust in the LORD; she does not draw near to her God. |
Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they gnaw not the bones till the morrow. | 3Her officials within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves that leave nothing till the morning. |
Her prophets are light and treacherous persons: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law. | 4Her prophets are fickle, treacherous men; her priests profane what is holy; they do violence to the law. |
The just LORD is in the midst thereof; he will not do iniquity: every morning doth he bring his judgment to light, he faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame. | 5The LORD within her is righteous; he does no injustice; every morning he shows forth his justice; each dawn he does not fail; but the unjust knows no shame. |
I have cut off the nations: their towers are desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by: their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, that there is none inhabitant. | 6“I have cut off nations; their battlements are in ruins; I have laid waste their streets so that no one walks in them; their cities have been made desolate, without a man, without an inhabitant. |
I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever I punished them: but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings. | 7I said, ‘Surely you will fear me; you will accept correction. Then your dwelling would not be cut off according to all that I have appointed against you.’ But all the more they were eager to make all their deeds corrupt. |
Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the LORD, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy. | 8“Therefore wait for me,” declares the LORD, “for the day when I rise up to seize the prey. For my decision is to gather nations, to assemble kingdoms, to pour out upon them my indignation, all my burning anger; for in the fire of my jealousy all the earth shall be consumed. |
For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent. | 9“For at that time I will change the speech of the peoples to a pure speech, that all of them may call upon the name of the LORD and serve him with one accord. |
From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants, even the daughter of my dispersed, shall bring mine offering. | 10From beyond the rivers of Cush my worshipers, the daughter of my dispersed ones, shall bring my offering. |
In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain. | 11“On that day you shall not be put to shame because of the deeds by which you have rebelled against me; for then I will remove from your midst your proudly exultant ones, and you shall no longer be haughty in my holy mountain. |
I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD. | 12But I will leave in your midst a people humble and lowly. They shall seek refuge in the name of the LORD, |
The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid. | 13those who are left in Israel; they shall do no injustice and speak no lies, nor shall there be found in their mouth a deceitful tongue. For they shall graze and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.” |
Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem. | 14Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! |
The LORD hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the LORD, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more. | 15The LORD has taken away the judgments against you; he has cleared away your enemies. The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst; you shall never again fear evil. |
In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack. | 16On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: “Fear not, O Zion; let not your hands grow weak. |
The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. | 17The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. |
I will gather them that are sorrowful for the solemn assembly, who are of thee, to whom the reproach of it was a burden. | 18I will gather those of you who mourn for the festival, so that you will no longer suffer reproach. |
Behold, at that time I will undo all that afflict thee: and I will save her that halteth, and gather her that was driven out; and I will get them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to shame. | 19Behold, at that time I will deal with all your oppressors. And I will save the lame and gather the outcast, and I will change their shame into praise and renown in all the earth. |
At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the LORD. | 20At that time I will bring you in, at the time when I gather you together; for I will make you renowned and praised among all the peoples of the earth, when I restore your fortunes before your eyes,” says the LORD. |
