In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. | 1After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to view the tomb. |
And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. | 2There was a violent earthquake, because an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and approached the tomb. He rolled back the stone and was sitting on it. |
His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: | 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. |
And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. | 4The guards were so shaken by fear of him that they became like dead men. |
And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. | 5The angel told the women, "Don't be afraid, because I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. |
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. | 6He is not here. For he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. |
And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. | 7Then go quickly and tell his disciples, 'He has risen from the dead and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there.' Listen, I have told you." |
And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. | 8So, departing quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, they ran to tell his disciples the news. |
And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. | 9Just then Jesus met them and said, "Greetings!" They came up, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. |
Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me. | 10Then Jesus told them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there." |
Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done. | 11As they were on their way, some of the guards came into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. |
And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers, | 12After the priests had assembled with the elders and agreed on a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money |
Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. | 13and told them, "Say this, 'His disciples came during the night and stole him while we were sleeping.' |
And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and secure you. | 14If this reaches the governor's ears, we will deal with him and keep you out of trouble." |
So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day. | 15They took the money and did as they were instructed, and this story has been spread among Jewish people to this day. |
Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. | 16The eleven disciples traveled to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them. |
And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. | 17When they saw him, they worshiped, but some doubted. |
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. | 18Jesus came near and said to them, "All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. |
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: | 19Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, |
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. | 20teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." |
