International Standard Version | New Living Translation |
Let brotherly love continue. | 1Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters. |
Stop neglecting to show hospitality to strangers, for by showing hospitality some have had angels as their guests without being aware of it. | 2Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it! |
Continue to remember those in prison as if you were in prison with them, as well as those who are mistreated, since they also are only mortal. | 3Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies. |
Let marriage be kept honorable in every way, and the marriage bed undefiled. For God will judge those who commit sexual sins, especially those who commit adultery. | 4Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery. |
Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for God has said, "I will never leave you or abandon you." | 5Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” |
Hence we can confidently say, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?" | 6So we can say with confidence, “The LORD is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” |
Remember your leaders, those who have spoken God's word to you. Think about the impact of their lives, and imitate their faith. | 7Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith. |
Jesus, the Messiah, is the same yesterday and today—and forever! | 8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. |
Stop being carried away by all kinds of unusual teachings, for it is good that the heart be strengthened by grace, not by food laws that have never helped those who follow them. | 9So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God’s grace, not from rules about food, which don’t help those who follow them. |
We have an altar, and those who serve in the tent have no right to eat at it. | 10We have an altar from which the priests in the Tabernacle have no right to eat. |
For the bodies of animals, whose blood is taken into the sanctuary by the high priest as an offering for sin, are burned outside the camp. | 11Under the old system, the high priest brought the blood of animals into the Holy Place as a sacrifice for sin, and the bodies of the animals were burned outside the camp. |
That is why Jesus, in order to sanctify the people by his own blood, also suffered outside the city gate. | 12So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates to make his people holy by means of his own blood. |
Therefore go to him outside the camp and endure the insults he endured. | 13So let us go out to him, outside the camp, and bear the disgrace he bore. |
For here we have no permanent city but are looking for the one that is coming. | 14For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come. |
Therefore, through him let us always bring God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of our lips that confess his name. | 15Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. |
Do not neglect to do good and to be generous, for God is pleased with such sacrifices. | 16And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God. |
Continue to follow and be submissive to your leaders, since they are watching over your souls as those who will have to give a word of explanation. By doing this, you will be letting them carry out their duties joyfully, and not with grief, for that would be harmful for you. | 17Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit. |
Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way. | 18Pray for us, for our conscience is clear and we want to live honorably in everything we do. |
I especially ask you to do this so that I may be brought back to you sooner. | 19And especially pray that I will be able to come back to you soon. |
Now may the God of peace, who by the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, the Great Shepherd of the sheep, | 20Now may the God of peace— who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood— |
equip you with everything good to do his will, accomplishing in us what pleases him through Jesus, the Messiah. To him be glory forever and ever! Amen. | 21may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen. |
I urge you, brothers, to listen patiently to my encouraging message, for I have written you a short letter. | 22I urge you, dear brothers and sisters, to pay attention to what I have written in this brief exhortation. |
You should know that our brother Timothy has been set free. If he comes soon, he will be with me when I see you. | 23I want you to know that our brother Timothy has been released from jail. If he comes here soon, I will bring him with me to see you. |
Greet all your leaders and all the saints. Those who are from Italy greet you. | 24Greet all your leaders and all the believers there. The believers from Italy send you their greetings. |
May grace be with all of you! | 25May God’s grace be with you all. |
