One afternoon, Peter and John were on their way to the Temple for the three o'clock prayer time. | 1Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the ninth hour, the hour of prayer. |
Now a man who had been crippled from birth was being carried in. Every day people would lay him at what was called the Beautiful Gate so that he could beg from those who were going into the Temple. | 2And a man who had been lame from his mother's womb was being carried along, whom they used to set down every day at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, in order to beg alms of those who were entering the temple. |
When he saw that Peter and John were about to go into the Temple, he asked them to give him something. | 3When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he began asking to receive alms. |
Peter, along with John, looked him straight in the eye and said, "Look at us!" | 4But Peter, along with John, fixed his gaze on him and said, "Look at us!" |
So the man watched them closely, expecting to get something from them. | 5And he began to give them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. |
However, Peter said, "I don't have any silver or gold, but I'll give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus the Messiah from Nazareth, walk!" | 6But Peter said, "I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene-- walk!" |
Then Peter took hold of his right hand and began to help him up. Immediately his feet and ankles became strong, | 7And seizing him by the right hand, he raised him up; and immediately his feet and his ankles were strengthened. |
and he sprang to his feet, stood up, and began to walk. Then he went with them into the Temple, walking, jumping, and praising God. | 8With a leap he stood upright and began to walk; and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. |
When all the people saw him walking and praising God, | 9And all the people saw him walking and praising God; |
they knew that he was the man who used to sit and beg at the Beautiful Gate of the Temple, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. | 10and they were taking note of him as being the one who used to sit at the Beautiful Gate of the temple to beg alms, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. |
While he was holding on to Peter and John, all the people came running to them in what was called "Solomon's Colonnade". They were dumbfounded. | 11While he was clinging to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them at the so-called portico of Solomon, full of amazement. |
When Peter saw this, he told the people: "Fellow Israelis, why are you wondering about this, and why are you staring at us as if by our own power or godliness we made him walk? | 12But when Peter saw this, he replied to the people, "Men of Israel, why are you amazed at this, or why do you gaze at us, as if by our own power or piety we had made him walk? |
The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the God of our ancestors—has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you betrayed and rejected in the presence of Pilate, even though he had decided to let him go. | 13"The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus, the one whom you delivered and disowned in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him. |
You rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer released to you, | 14"But you disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, |
and you killed the source of life, whom God raised from the dead. We are witnesses to that. | 15but put to death the Prince of life, the one whom God raised from the dead, a fact to which we are witnesses. |
It is his name—that is, by faith in his name—that has healed this man whom you see and know. Yes, the faith that comes through Jesus has given him this perfect health in the presence of all of you. | 16"And on the basis of faith in His name, it is the name of Jesus which has strengthened this man whom you see and know; and the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all. |
"And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance like your leaders. | 17"And now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as your rulers did also. |
This is how God fulfilled what he had predicted through the voice of all the prophets—that his Messiah would suffer. | 18"But the things which God announced beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, that His Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. |
Therefore, repent and turn to him to have your sins blotted out, | 19"Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; |
so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord and so that he may send you Jesus, whom he appointed long ago to be the Messiah. | 20and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you, |
He must remain in heaven until the time of universal restitution, which God announced long ago through the voice of his holy prophets. | 21whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time. |
In fact, Moses said, 'The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to everything he tells you. | 22"Moses said, 'THE LORD GOD WILL RAISE UP FOR YOU A PROPHET LIKE ME FROM YOUR BRETHREN; TO HIM YOU SHALL GIVE HEED to everything He says to you. |
Any person who will not listen to that prophet will be utterly destroyed from among the people.' | 23'And it will be that every soul that does not heed that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.' |
"Indeed, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who followed him, also announced these days. | 24"And likewise, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and his successors onward, also announced these days. |
You are the descendants of the prophets and the heirs of the covenant that God made with your ancestors when he told Abraham, 'Through your descendant all the families of the earth will be blessed.' | 25"It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, 'AND IN YOUR SEED ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH SHALL BE BLESSED.' |
When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning every one of you from your evil ways." | 26"For you first, God raised up His Servant and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways." |
