| 1So then, my brothers, keep on rejoicing in the Lord. It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you; indeed, it is for your safety. | 1Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe. |
| 2Beware of the dogs! Beware of the evil workers! Beware of the mutilators! | 2Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision. |
| 3For it is we who are the circumcision —we who worship in the Spirit of God and find our joy in the Messiah Jesus. We have not placed any confidence in the flesh, | 3For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. |
| 4although I could have confidence in the flesh. If anyone thinks he can place confidence in the flesh, I have more reason to think so. | 4Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: |
| 5Having been circumcised on the eighth day, I am of the nation of Israel, from the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews. As far as the Law is concerned, I was a Pharisee. | 5Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; |
| 6As for my zeal, I was a persecutor of the church. As far as righteousness in the Law is concerned, I was blameless. | 6Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. |
| 7But whatever things were assets to me, these I now consider a loss for the sake of the Messiah. | 7But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. |
| 8What is more, I continue to consider all these things to be a loss for the sake of what is far more valuable, knowing the Messiah Jesus, my Lord. It is because of him that I have experienced the loss of all those things. Indeed, I consider them rubbish in order to gain the Messiah | 8Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, |
| 9and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the Law, but one that comes through the faithfulness of the Messiah, the righteousness that comes from God and that depends on faith. | 9And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: |
| 10I want to know the Messiah —what his resurrection power is like and what it means to share in his sufferings by becoming like him in his death, | 10That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; |
| 11though I hope to experience the resurrection from the dead. | 11If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. |
| 12It's not that I have already reached this goal or have already become perfect. But I keep pursuing it, hoping somehow to embrace it just as I have been embraced by the Messiah Jesus. | 12Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. |
| 13Brothers, I do not consider myself to have embraced it yet. But this one thing I do: Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, | 13Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, |
| 14I keep pursuing the goal to win the prize of God's heavenly call in the Messiah Jesus. | 14I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. |
| 15Therefore, those of us who are mature should think this way. And if you think differently about anything, God will show you how to think. | 15Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. |
| 16However, we should live up to what we have achieved so far. | 16Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. |
| 17Join together in imitating me, brothers, and pay close attention to those who live by the example we have set for you. | 17Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. |
| 18For I have often told you, and now tell you even with tears, that many live as enemies of the cross of the Messiah. | 18(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: |
| 19Their destiny is destruction, their god is their belly, and their glory is in their shame. Their minds are set on worldly things. | 19Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) |
| 20Our citizenship, however, is in heaven, and it is from there that we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus, the Messiah. | 20For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: |
| 21He will change our unassuming bodies and make them like his glorious body through the power that enables him to bring everything under his authority. | 21Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself. |
