ESV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
English Standard VersionNew Living Translation
Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box,1While Jesus was in the Temple, he watched the rich people dropping their gifts in the collection box.
and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins.2Then a poor widow came by and dropped in two small coins.
And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them.3 “I tell you the truth,” Jesus said, “this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them.
For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”4 For they have given a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has.” Jesus Speaks about the Future
And while some were speaking of the temple, how it was adorned with noble stones and offerings, he said,5Some of his disciples began talking about the majestic stonework of the Temple and the memorial decorations on the walls. But Jesus said,
“As for these things that you see, the days will come when there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.”6 “The time is coming when all these things will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!”
And they asked him, “Teacher, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when these things are about to take place?”7“Teacher,” they asked, “when will all this happen? What sign will show us that these things are about to take place?”
And he said, “See that you are not led astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he!’ and, ‘The time is at hand!’ Do not go after them.8He replied, “Don’t let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and saying, ‘The time has come!’ But don’t believe them.
And when you hear of wars and tumults, do not be terrified, for these things must first take place, but the end will not be at once.”9 And when you hear of wars and insurrections, don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place first, but the end won’t follow immediately.”
Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.10Then he added, “Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences. And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.11 There will be great earthquakes, and there will be famines and plagues in many lands, and there will be terrifying things and great miraculous signs from heaven.
But before all this they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name’s sake.12 “But before all this occurs, there will be a time of great persecution. You will be dragged into synagogues and prisons, and you will stand trial before kings and governors because you are my followers.
This will be your opportunity to bear witness.13 But this will be your opportunity to tell them about me.
Settle it therefore in your minds not to meditate beforehand how to answer,14 So don’t worry in advance about how to answer the charges against you,
for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict.15 for I will give you the right words and such wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to reply or refute you!
You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and some of you they will put to death.16 Even those closest to you—your parents, brothers, relatives, and friends—will betray you. They will even kill some of you.
You will be hated by all for my name’s sake.17 And everyone will hate you because you are my followers.
But not a hair of your head will perish.18 But not a hair of your head will perish!
By your endurance you will gain your lives.19 By standing firm, you will win your souls.
“But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has come near.20 “And when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then you will know that the time of its destruction has arrived.
Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, and let those who are inside the city depart, and let not those who are out in the country enter it,21 Then those in Judea must flee to the hills. Those in Jerusalem must get out, and those out in the country should not return to the city.
for these are days of vengeance, to fulfill all that is written.22 For those will be days of God’s vengeance, and the prophetic words of the Scriptures will be fulfilled.
Alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! For there will be great distress upon the earth and wrath against this people.23 How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for nursing mothers in those days. For there will be disaster in the land and great anger against this people.
They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive among all nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.24 They will be killed by the sword or sent away as captives to all the nations of the world. And Jerusalem will be trampled down by the Gentiles until the period of the Gentiles comes to an end.
“And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves,25 “And there will be strange signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides.
people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken.26 People will be terrified at what they see coming upon the earth, for the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.27 Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on a cloud with power and great glory.
Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”28 So when all these things begin to happen, stand and look up, for your salvation is near!”
And he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees.29Then he gave them this illustration: “Notice the fig tree, or any other tree.
As soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and know that the summer is already near.30 When the leaves come out, you know without being told that summer is near.
So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near.31 In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that the Kingdom of God is near.
Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all has taken place.32 I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene until all these things have taken place.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.33 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.
“But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap.34 “Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware,
For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth.35 like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth.
But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”36 Keep alert at all times. And pray that you might be strong enough to escape these coming horrors and stand before the Son of Man.”
And every day he was teaching in the temple, but at night he went out and lodged on the mount called Olivet.37Every day Jesus went to the Temple to teach, and each evening he returned to spend the night on the Mount of Olives.
And early in the morning all the people came to him in the temple to hear him.38The crowds gathered at the Temple early each morning to hear him.
