| 2See how Your enemies rage, how Your foes have reared their heads. | 2Don’t you hear the uproar of your enemies? Don’t you see that your arrogant enemies are rising up? |
| 3With cunning they scheme against Your people and conspire against those You cherish, | 3They devise crafty schemes against your people; they conspire against your precious ones. |
| 4saying, “Come, let us erase them as a nation; may the name of Israel be remembered no more.” | 4“Come,” they say, “let us wipe out Israel as a nation. We will destroy the very memory of its existence.” |
| 5For with one mind they plot together, they form an alliance against You— | 5Yes, this was their unanimous decision. They signed a treaty as allies against you— |
| 6the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, | 6these Edomites and Ishmaelites; Moabites and Hagrites; |
| 7of Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, of Philistia with the people of Tyre. | 7Gebalites, Ammonites, and Amalekites; and people from Philistia and Tyre. |
| 8Even Assyria has joined them, lending strength to the sons of Lot. Selah | 8Assyria has joined them, too, and is allied with the descendants of Lot. Interlude |

| 16Cover their faces with shame, that they may seek Your name, O LORD. | 16Utterly disgrace them until they submit to your name, O LORD. |
| 17May they be ever ashamed and terrified; may they perish in disgrace. | 17Let them be ashamed and terrified forever. Let them die in disgrace. |
| 18May they know that You alone, whose name is the LORD, are Most High over all the earth. | 18Then they will learn that you alone are called the LORD, that you alone are the Most High, supreme over all the earth. |
