Berean Study Bible | International Standard Version |
A song. A Psalm of Asaph. O God, be not silent; be not speechless; be not still, O God. | 1God, do not rest! Don't be silent! Don't stay inactive, God! |
See how Your enemies rage, how Your foes have reared their heads. | 2See! Your enemies rage; those who hate you issue threats. |
With cunning they scheme against Your people and conspire against those You cherish, | 3They plot against your people and conspire against your cherished ones. |
saying, “Come, let us erase them as a nation; may the name of Israel be remembered no more.” | 4They say, "Let us go and erase them as a nation so the name of Israel will not be remembered anymore." |
For with one mind they plot together, they form an alliance against You— | 5Indeed, they shrewdly planned together, forming an alliance against you— |
the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, | 6the tents of Edom, the Ishmaelites, Moab, the Hagrites, |
of Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, of Philistia with the people of Tyre. | 7Gebal, Ammon, Amalek, Philistia, and the inhabitants of Tyre. |
Even Assyria has joined them, lending strength to the sons of Lot. Selah | 8Even Assyria joined them to strengthen the descendants of Lot. Interlude |
Do to them as You did to Midian, as to Sisera and Jabin at the River Kishon, | 9Deal with them as you did to Midian, Sisera, and Jabin at the Kishon Brook. |
who perished at Endor and became like dung on the ground. | 10They were destroyed at En-dor and became as dung on the ground. |
Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, | 11Punish their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, |
who said, “Let us possess for ourselves the pastures of God.” | 12who said, "Let us possess the pastures of God." |
Make them like tumbleweed, O my God, like chaff before the wind. | 13God, set them up like dried thistles, like straw before the wind. |
As fire consumes a forest, as a flame sets the mountains ablaze, | 14Like a fire burning a forest, and a flame setting mountains ablaze. |
so pursue them with Your tempest, and terrify them with Your storm. | 15Pursue them with your storm and terrify them with your whirlwind. |
Cover their faces with shame, that they may seek Your name, O LORD. | 16Fill their faces with shame until they seek your name, God. |
May they be ever ashamed and terrified; may they perish in disgrace. | 17Let them be humiliated and terrified permanently until they die in shame. |
May they know that You alone, whose name is the LORD, are Most High over all the earth. | 18Then they will know that you alone— whose name is LORD— are the Most High over all the earth. |
