1After this, I heard what sounded like a vast crowd in heaven shouting, “Praise the LORD! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God. | 1After these things I heard what sounded like the loud voice of a vast throng in heaven, saying, "Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, |
2His judgments are true and just. He has punished the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her immorality. He has avenged the murder of his servants.” | 2because his judgments are true and just. For he has judged the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality, and has avenged the blood of his servants poured out by her own hands!" |
3And again their voices rang out: “Praise the LORD! The smoke from that city ascends forever and ever!” | 3Then a second time the crowd shouted, "Hallelujah!" The smoke rises from her forever and ever. |
4Then the twenty-four elders and the four living beings fell down and worshiped God, who was sitting on the throne. They cried out, “Amen! Praise the LORD!” | 4The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures threw themselves to the ground and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne, saying: "Amen! Hallelujah!" |
5And from the throne came a voice that said, “Praise our God, all his servants, all who fear him, from the least to the greatest.” | 5Then a voice came from the throne, saying: "Praise our God all you his servants, and all you who fear Him, both the small and the great!" |
6Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a vast crowd or the roar of mighty ocean waves or the crash of loud thunder: “Praise the LORD! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. | 6Then I heard what sounded like the voice of a vast throng, like the roar of many waters and like loud crashes of thunder. They were shouting: "Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the All-Powerful, reigns! |
7Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself. | 7Let us rejoice and exult and give him glory, because the wedding celebration of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. |
8She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.” For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people. | 8She was permitted to be dressed in bright, clean, fine linen" (for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints). |
9And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” And he added, “These are true words that come from God.” | 9Then the angel said to me, "Write the following: Blessed are those who are invited to the banquet at the wedding celebration of the Lamb!" He also said to me, "These are the true words of God." |
10Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers and sisters who testify about their faith in Jesus. Worship only God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus. ” The Rider on the White Horse | 10So I threw myself down at his feet to worship him, but he said, "Do not do this! I am only a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony about Jesus. Worship God, for the testimony about Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." |
11Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war. | 11Then I saw heaven opened and here came a white horse! The one riding it was called "Faithful" and "True," and with justice he judges and goes to war. |
12His eyes were like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns. A name was written on him that no one understood except himself. | 12His eyes are like a fiery flame and there are many diadem crowns on his head. He has a name written that no one knows except himself. |
13He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God. | 13He is dressed in clothing dipped in blood, and he is called the Word of God. |
14The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed him on white horses. | 14The armies that are in heaven, dressed in white, clean, fine linen, were following him on white horses. |
15From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress. | 15From his mouth extends a sharp sword, so that with it he can strike the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod, and he stomps the winepress of the furious wrath of God, the All-Powerful. |
16On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords. | 16He has a name written on his clothing and on his thigh: "King of kings and Lord of lords." |
17Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, shouting to the vultures flying high in the sky: “Come! Gather together for the great banquet God has prepared. | 17Then I saw one angel standing in the sun, and he shouted in a loud voice to all the birds flying high in the sky: "Come, gather around for the great banquet of God, |
18Come and eat the flesh of kings, generals, and strong warriors; of horses and their riders; and of all humanity, both free and slave, small and great.” | 18to eat your fill of the flesh of kings, the flesh of generals, the flesh of powerful people, the flesh of horses and those who ride them, and the flesh of all people, both free and slave, and small and great!" |
19Then I saw the beast and the kings of the world and their armies gathered together to fight against the one sitting on the horse and his army. | 19Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to do battle with the one who rode the horse and with his army. |
20And the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who did mighty miracles on behalf of the beast—miracles that deceived all who had accepted the mark of the beast and who worshiped his statue. Both the beast and his false prophet were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. | 20Now the beast was seized, and along with him the false prophet who had performed the signs on his behalf--signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. Both of them were thrown alive into the lake of fire burning with sulfur. |
21Their entire army was killed by the sharp sword that came from the mouth of the one riding the white horse. And the vultures all gorged themselves on the dead bodies. | 21The others were killed by the sword that extended from the mouth of the one who rode the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves with their flesh. |
