The LORD said to Moses,1The LORD spoke to Moses:
“Command the people of Israel to bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to keep the lamps burning continually.2"Command the Israelites to bring to you pure oil of beaten olives for the light, to make a lamp burn continually.
This is the lampstand that stands in the Tabernacle, in front of the inner curtain that shields the Ark of the Covenant. Aaron must keep the lamps burning in the LORD’s presence all night. This is a permanent law for you, and it must be observed from generation to generation.3Outside the veil-canopy of the congregation in the Meeting Tent Aaron must arrange it from evening until morning before the LORD continually. This is a perpetual statute throughout your generations.
Aaron and the priests must tend the lamps on the pure gold lampstand continually in the LORD’s presence.4On the ceremonially pure lampstand he must arrange the lamps before the LORD continually.
“You must bake twelve flat loaves of bread from choice flour, using four quarts of flour for each loaf.5"You must take choice wheat flour and bake twelve loaves; there must be two tenths of an ephah of flour in each loaf,
Place the bread before the LORD on the pure gold table, and arrange the loaves in two stacks, with six loaves in each stack.6and you must set them in two rows, six in a row, on the ceremonially pure table before the LORD.
Put some pure frankincense near each stack to serve as a representative offering, a special gift presented to the LORD.7You must put pure frankincense on each row, and it will become a memorial portion for the bread, a gift to the LORD.
Every Sabbath day this bread must be laid out before the LORD as a gift from the Israelites; it is an ongoing expression of the eternal covenant.8Each Sabbath day Aaron must arrange it before the LORD continually; this portion is from the Israelites as a perpetual covenant.
The loaves of bread will belong to Aaron and his descendants, who must eat them in a sacred place, for they are most holy. It is the permanent right of the priests to claim this portion of the special gifts presented to the LORD.” An Example of Just Punishment9It will belong to Aaron and his sons, and they must eat it in a holy place because it is most holy to him, a perpetual allotted portion from the gifts of the LORD."
One day a man who had an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father came out of his tent and got into a fight with one of the Israelite men.10Now an Israelite woman's son whose father was an Egyptian went out among the Israelites, and the Israelite woman's son and an Israelite man had a fight in the camp.
During the fight, this son of an Israelite woman blasphemed the Name of the LORD with a curse. So the man was brought to Moses for judgment. His mother was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri of the tribe of Dan.11The Israelite woman's son misused the Name and cursed, so they brought him to Moses. (Now his mother's name was Shelomith daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.)
They kept the man in custody until the LORD’s will in the matter should become clear to them.12So they placed him in custody until they were able to make a clear legal decision for themselves based on words from the mouth of the LORD.
Then the LORD said to Moses,13Then the LORD spoke to Moses:
“Take the blasphemer outside the camp, and tell all those who heard the curse to lay their hands on his head. Then let the entire community stone him to death.14"Bring the one who cursed outside the camp, and all who heard him are to lay their hands on his head, and the whole congregation is to stone him to death.
Say to the people of Israel: Those who curse their God will be punished for their sin.15Moreover, you are to tell the Israelites, 'If any man curses his God he will bear responsibility for his sin,
Anyone who blasphemes the Name of the LORD must be stoned to death by the whole community of Israel. Any native-born Israelite or foreigner among you who blasphemes the Name of the LORD must be put to death.16and one who misuses the name of the LORD must surely be put to death. The whole congregation must surely stone him, whether he is a foreigner or a native citizen; when he misuses the Name he must be put to death.
“Anyone who takes another person’s life must be put to death.17"'If a man beats any person to death, he must be put to death.
“Anyone who kills another person’s animal must pay for it in full—a live animal for the animal that was killed.18One who beats an animal to death must make restitution for it, life for life.
“Anyone who injures another person must be dealt with according to the injury inflicted—19If a man inflicts an injury on his fellow citizen, just as he has done it must be done to him--
a fracture for a fracture, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. Whatever anyone does to injure another person must be paid back in kind.20fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth--just as he inflicts an injury on another person that same injury must be inflicted on him.
“Whoever kills an animal must pay for it in full, but whoever kills another person must be put to death.21One who beats an animal to death must make restitution for it, but one who beats a person to death must be put to death.
“This same standard applies both to native-born Israelites and to the foreigners living among you. I am the LORD your God.”22There will be one regulation for you, whether a foreigner or a native citizen, for I am the LORD your God.'"
After Moses gave all these instructions to the Israelites, they took the blasphemer outside the camp and stoned him to death. The Israelites did just as the LORD had commanded Moses.23Then Moses spoke to the Israelites and they brought the one who cursed outside the camp and stoned him with stones. So the Israelites did just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
