New Living Translation | English Standard Version |
Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. | 1Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. |
Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. | 2Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. |
If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important. | 3For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. |
Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. | 4But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. |
For we are each responsible for our own conduct. | 5For each will have to bear his own load. |
Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them. | 6Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. |
Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. | 7Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. |
Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. | 8For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. |
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. | 9And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. |
Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith. Paul’s Final Advice | 10So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. |
Notice what large letters I use as I write these closing words in my own handwriting. | 11See with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. |
Those who are trying to force you to be circumcised want to look good to others. They don’t want to be persecuted for teaching that the cross of Christ alone can save. | 12It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh who would force you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. |
And even those who advocate circumcision don’t keep the whole law themselves. They only want you to be circumcised so they can boast about it and claim you as their disciples. | 13For even those who are circumcised do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. |
As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died. | 14But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. |
It doesn’t matter whether we have been circumcised or not. What counts is whether we have been transformed into a new creation. | 15For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. |
May God’s peace and mercy be upon all who live by this principle; they are the new people of God. | 16And as for all who walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God. |
From now on, don’t let anyone trouble me with these things. For I bear on my body the scars that show I belong to Jesus. | 17From now on let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. |
Dear brothers and sisters, may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. | 18The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers. Amen. |
