New Living Translation | Berean Study Bible |
Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. | 1Brothers, if someone is caught in a trespass, you who are spiritual should restore him with a spirit of gentleness. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. |
Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. | 2Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. |
If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important. | 3If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. |
Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. | 4Each one should test his own work. Then he will have reason to boast in himself alone, and not in someone else. |
For we are each responsible for our own conduct. | 5For each one should carry his own load. |
Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them. | 6Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word must share in all good things with his instructor. |
Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. | 7Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap in return. |
Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. | 8The one who sows to please his flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; but the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. |
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. | 9Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. |
Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith. Paul’s Final Advice | 10Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to the family of faith. |
Notice what large letters I use as I write these closing words in my own handwriting. | 11See what large letters I am using to write to you with my own hand! |
Those who are trying to force you to be circumcised want to look good to others. They don’t want to be persecuted for teaching that the cross of Christ alone can save. | 12Those who want to make a good impression outwardly are trying to compel you to be circumcised. They only do this to avoid persecution for the cross of Christ. |
And even those who advocate circumcision don’t keep the whole law themselves. They only want you to be circumcised so they can boast about it and claim you as their disciples. | 13For the circumcised do not even keep the law themselves, yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. |
As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died. | 14But as for me, may I never boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. |
It doesn’t matter whether we have been circumcised or not. What counts is whether we have been transformed into a new creation. | 15For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything. What counts is a new creation. |
May God’s peace and mercy be upon all who live by this principle; they are the new people of God. | 16Peace and mercy to all who walk by this rule, even to the Israel of God. |
From now on, don’t let anyone trouble me with these things. For I bear on my body the scars that show I belong to Jesus. | 17From now on let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. |
Dear brothers and sisters, may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. | 18The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers. Amen. |
