New Living Translation | Berean Study Bible |
Please listen, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph’s descendants like a flock. O God, enthroned above the cherubim, display your radiant glory | 1For the choirmaster. To the tune of “The Lilies of the Covenant.” A Psalm of Asaph. Hear us, O Shepherd of Israel, who leads Joseph like a flock; You who sit enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth |
to Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh. Show us your mighty power. Come to rescue us! | 2before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh. Rally Your mighty power and come to save us. |
Turn us again to yourself, O God. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved. | 3Restore us, O God, and cause Your face to shine upon us, that we may be saved. |
O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies, how long will you be angry with our prayers? | 4O LORD God of Hosts, how long will Your anger smolder against the prayers of Your people? |
You have fed us with sorrow and made us drink tears by the bucketful. | 5You fed them with the bread of tears and made them drink the full measure of their tears. |
You have made us the scorn of neighboring nations. Our enemies treat us as a joke. | 6You make us contend with our neighbors; our enemies mock us. |
Turn us again to yourself, O God of Heaven’s Armies. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved. | 7Restore us, O God of Hosts, and cause Your face to shine upon us, that we may be saved. |
You brought us from Egypt like a grapevine; you drove away the pagan nations and transplanted us into your land. | 8You uprooted a vine from Egypt; You drove out the nations and transplanted it. |
You cleared the ground for us, and we took root and filled the land. | 9You cleared the ground for it, and it took root and filled the land. |
Our shade covered the mountains; our branches covered the mighty cedars. | 10The mountains were covered by its shade, and the mighty cedars with its branches. |
We spread our branches west to the Mediterranean Sea; our shoots spread east to the Euphrates River. | 11It sent out its branches to the Sea, and its shoots toward the River. |
But now, why have you broken down our walls so that all who pass by may steal our fruit? | 12Why have You broken down its walls, so that all who pass by pick its fruit? |
The wild boar from the forest devours it, and the wild animals feed on it. | 13The boar from the forest ravages it, and the creatures of the field feed upon it. |
Come back, we beg you, O God of Heaven’s Armies. Look down from heaven and see our plight. Take care of this grapevine | 14Return, O God of Hosts, we pray! Look down from heaven and see! Attend to this vine— |
that you yourself have planted, this son you have raised for yourself. | 15the root Your right hand has planted, the son You have raised up for Yourself. |
For we are chopped up and burned by our enemies. May they perish at the sight of your frown. | 16Your vine has been cut down and burned; they perish at the rebuke of Your countenance. |
Strengthen the man you love, the son of your choice. | 17Let Your hand be upon the man at Your right hand, on the son of man You have raised up for Yourself. |
Then we will never abandon you again. Revive us so we can call on your name once more. | 18Then we will not turn away from You; revive us, and we will call on Your name. |
Turn us again to yourself, O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved. | 19Restore us, O LORD God of Hosts; cause Your face to shine upon us, that we may be saved. |
