New King James Version | New Living Translation |
A Song. A Psalm of Asaph. Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, And do not be still, O God! | 1O God, do not be silent! Do not be deaf. Do not be quiet, O God. |
For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; And those who hate You have lifted up their head. | 2Don’t you hear the uproar of your enemies? Don’t you see that your arrogant enemies are rising up? |
They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. | 3They devise crafty schemes against your people; they conspire against your precious ones. |
They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.” | 4“Come,” they say, “let us wipe out Israel as a nation. We will destroy the very memory of its existence.” |
For they have consulted together with one consent; They form a confederacy against You: | 5Yes, this was their unanimous decision. They signed a treaty as allies against you— |
The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagrites; | 6these Edomites and Ishmaelites; Moabites and Hagrites; |
Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; | 7Gebalites, Ammonites, and Amalekites; and people from Philistia and Tyre. |
Assyria also has joined with them; They have helped the children of Lot. Selah | 8Assyria has joined them, too, and is allied with the descendants of Lot. Interlude |
Deal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera, As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon, | 9Do to them as you did to the Midianites and as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River. |
Who perished at En Dor, Who became as refuse on the earth. | 10They were destroyed at Endor, and their decaying corpses fertilized the soil. |
Make their nobles like Oreb and like Zeeb, Yes, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, | 11Let their mighty nobles die as Oreb and Zeeb did. Let all their princes die like Zebah and Zalmunna, |
Who said, “Let us take for ourselves The pastures of God for a possession.” | 12for they said, “Let us seize for our own use these pasturelands of God!” |
O my God, make them like the whirling dust, Like the chaff before the wind! | 13O my God, scatter them like tumbleweed, like chaff before the wind! |
As the fire burns the woods, And as the flame sets the mountains on fire, | 14As a fire burns a forest and as a flame sets mountains ablaze, |
So pursue them with Your tempest, And frighten them with Your storm. | 15chase them with your fierce storm; terrify them with your tempest. |
Fill their faces with shame, That they may seek Your name, O LORD. | 16Utterly disgrace them until they submit to your name, O LORD. |
Let them be confounded and dismayed forever; Yes, let them be put to shame and perish, | 17Let them be ashamed and terrified forever. Let them die in disgrace. |
That they may know that You, whose name alone is the LORD, Are the Most High over all the earth. | 18Then they will learn that you alone are called the LORD, that you alone are the Most High, supreme over all the earth. |
