A Song. A Psalm of Asaph. Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, And do not be still, O God! | 1A song. A psalm of Asaph. O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear, do not stand aloof, O God. |
For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; And those who hate You have lifted up their head. | 2See how your enemies growl, how your foes rear their heads. |
They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. | 3With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. |
They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.” | 4"Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel's name is remembered no more." |
For they have consulted together with one consent; They form a confederacy against You: | 5With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you-- |
The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagrites; | 6the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, |
Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; | 7Byblos, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre. |
Assyria also has joined with them; They have helped the children of Lot. Selah | 8Even Assyria has joined them to reinforce Lot's descendants. |
Deal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera, As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon, | 9Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon, |
Who perished at En Dor, Who became as refuse on the earth. | 10who perished at Endor and became like dung on the ground. |
Make their nobles like Oreb and like Zeeb, Yes, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, | 11Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, |
Who said, “Let us take for ourselves The pastures of God for a possession.” | 12who said, "Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God." |
O my God, make them like the whirling dust, Like the chaff before the wind! | 13Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind. |
As the fire burns the woods, And as the flame sets the mountains on fire, | 14As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze, |
So pursue them with Your tempest, And frighten them with Your storm. | 15so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. |
Fill their faces with shame, That they may seek Your name, O LORD. | 16Cover their faces with shame, LORD, so that they will seek your name. |
Let them be confounded and dismayed forever; Yes, let them be put to shame and perish, | 17May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace. |
That they may know that You, whose name alone is the LORD, Are the Most High over all the earth. | 18Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD-- that you alone are the Most High over all the earth. |
