| 22Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ | 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?' |
| 23And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ | 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' |
| 24“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: | 24"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. |
| 25and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. | 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. |
| 26“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: | 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. |
| 27and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” | 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash." |
| 28And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, | 28When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, |
| 29for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. | 29because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law. |
