New King James Version | New International Version |
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. | 1Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. |
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. | 2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. |
For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. | 3For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. |
When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. | 4When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. |
Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. | 5Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. |
Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, | 6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. |
in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. | 7You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. |
But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. | 8But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. |
Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, | 9Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices |
and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, | 10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. |
where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. | 11Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. |
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; | 12Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. |
bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. | 13Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. |
But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. | 14And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. |
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. | 15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. |
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. | 16Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. |
And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. | 17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. |
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. | 18Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. |
Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them. | 19Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. |
Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord. | 20Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. |
Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. | 21Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged. |
Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. | 22Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. |
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, | 23Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, |
knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. | 24since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. |
But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality. | 25Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism. |
