New King James VersionNET Bible
“You are the children of the LORD your God; you shall not cut yourselves nor shave the front of your head for the dead.1You are children of the LORD your God. Do not cut yourselves or shave your forehead bald for the sake of the dead.
For you are a holy people to the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.2For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. He has chosen you to be his people, prized above all others on the face of the earth.
“You shall not eat any detestable thing.3You must not eat any forbidden thing.
These are the animals which you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat,4These are the animals you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat,
the deer, the gazelle, the roe deer, the wild goat, the mountain goat, the antelope, and the mountain sheep.5the ibex, the gazelle, the deer, the wild goat, the antelope, the wild oryx, and the mountain sheep.
And you may eat every animal with cloven hooves, having the hoof split into two parts, and that chews the cud, among the animals.6You may eat any animal that has hooves divided into two parts and that chews the cud.
Nevertheless, of those that chew the cud or have cloven hooves, you shall not eat, such as these: the camel, the hare, and the rock hyrax; for they chew the cud but do not have cloven hooves; they are unclean for you.7However, you may not eat the following animals among those that chew the cud or those that have divided hooves: the camel, the hare, and the rock badger. (Although they chew the cud, they do not have divided hooves and are therefore ritually impure to you).
Also the swine is unclean for you, because it has cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud; you shall not eat their flesh or touch their dead carcasses.8Also the pig is ritually impure to you; though it has divided hooves, it does not chew the cud. You may not eat their meat or even touch their remains.
“These you may eat of all that are in the waters: you may eat all that have fins and scales.9These you may eat from among water creatures: anything with fins and scales you may eat,
And whatever does not have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean for you.10but whatever does not have fins and scales you may not eat; it is ritually impure to you.
“All clean birds you may eat.11All ritually clean birds you may eat.
But these you shall not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the buzzard,12These are the ones you may not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the black vulture,
the red kite, the falcon, and the kite after their kinds;13the kite, the black kite, the dayyah after its species,
every raven after its kind;14every raven after its species,
the ostrich, the short-eared owl, the sea gull, and the hawk after their kinds;15the ostrich, the owl, the seagull, the falcon after its species,
the little owl, the screech owl, the white owl,16the little owl, the long-eared owl, the white owl,
the jackdaw, the carrion vulture, the fisher owl,17the jackdaw, the carrion vulture, the cormorant,
the stork, the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe and the bat.18the stork, the heron after its species, the hoopoe, the bat,
“Also every creeping thing that flies is unclean for you; they shall not be eaten.19and any winged thing on the ground are impure to you--they may not be eaten.
“You may eat all clean birds.20You may eat any clean bird.
“You shall not eat anything that dies of itself; you may give it to the alien who is within your gates, that he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner; for you are a holy people to the LORD your God. “You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.21You may not eat any corpse, though you may give it to the resident foreigner who is living in your villages and he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner. You are a people holy to the LORD your God. Do not boil a young goat in its mother's milk.
“You shall truly tithe all the increase of your grain that the field produces year by year.22You must be certain to tithe all the produce of your seed that comes from the field year after year.
And you shall eat before the LORD your God, in the place where He chooses to make His name abide, the tithe of your grain and your new wine and your oil, of the firstborn of your herds and your flocks, that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.23In the presence of the LORD your God you must eat from the tithe of your grain, your new wine, your olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the place he chooses to locate his name, so that you may learn to revere the LORD your God always.
But if the journey is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry the tithe, or if the place where the LORD your God chooses to put His name is too far from you, when the LORD your God has blessed you,24When he blesses you, if the place where he chooses to locate his name is distant,
then you shall exchange it for money, take the money in your hand, and go to the place which the LORD your God chooses.25you may convert the tithe into money, secure the money, and travel to the place the LORD your God chooses for himself.
And you shall spend that money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen or sheep, for wine or similar drink, for whatever your heart desires; you shall eat there before the LORD your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household.26Then you may spend the money however you wish for cattle, sheep, wine, beer, or whatever you desire. You and your household may eat there in the presence of the LORD your God and enjoy it.
You shall not forsake the Levite who is within your gates, for he has no part nor inheritance with you.27As for the Levites in your villages, you must not ignore them, for they have no allotment or inheritance along with you.
“At the end of every third year you shall bring out the tithe of your produce of that year and store it up within your gates.28At the end of every three years you must bring all the tithe of your produce, in that very year, and you must store it up in your villages.
And the Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, and the stranger and the fatherless and the widow who are within your gates, may come and eat and be satisfied, that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.29Then the Levites (because they have no allotment or inheritance with you), the resident foreigners, the orphans, and the widows of your villages may come and eat their fill so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work you do.
