NKJV Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionInternational Standard Version
“Ephraim feeds on the wind, And pursues the east wind; He daily increases lies and desolation. Also they make a covenant with the Assyrians, And oil is carried to Egypt.1 "Ephraim feeds on the wind, chasing after the eastern winds, storing up lies and desolation day after day. They are making a contract with the Assyrians, and sending oil to Egypt.
“The LORD also brings a charge against Judah, And will punish Jacob according to his ways; According to his deeds He will recompense him.2The LORD accuses Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; he will repay him for what he does.
He took his brother by the heel in the womb, And in his strength he struggled with God.3He circumvented his brother in the womb, and as an adult he fought with God.
Yes, he struggled with the Angel and prevailed; He wept, and sought favor from Him. He found Him in Bethel, And there He spoke to us—4He even fought the angel and won; he cried and prayed to him. Then at Bethel he found him, and there he spoke with us—
That is, the LORD God of hosts. The LORD is His memorable name.5the LORD God of the Heavenly Armies— the LORD is his name.
So you, by the help of your God, return; Observe mercy and justice, And wait on your God continually.6So you, return to your God; guard grace and justice, and look to your God always.
“A cunning Canaanite! Deceitful scales are in his hand; He loves to oppress.7"Now as for the merchant, deceitful balances remain in his hand, and he loves to defraud.
And Ephraim said, ‘Surely I have become rich, I have found wealth for myself; In all my labors They shall find in me no iniquity that is sin.’8Ephraim claims, 'I have become rich, I have made a fortune! Because of all my wealth, no one will find any iniquity or sin in me.'
“But I am the LORD your God, Ever since the land of Egypt; I will again make you dwell in tents, As in the days of the appointed feast.9"Yet I remain the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. I will make you live in tents again, as in the festival of that name.
I have also spoken by the prophets, And have multiplied visions; I have given symbols through the witness of the prophets.”10I spoke to the prophets, giving revelation after revelation, and employing parables in the prophetic writings.
Though Gilead has idols— Surely they are vanity— Though they sacrifice bulls in Gilgal, Indeed their altars shall be heaps in the furrows of the field.11"There's iniquity in Gilead, isn't there? They have become truly vain. They sacrifice bulls in Gilgal; their altars are like piles of stone in furrowed fields.
Jacob fled to the country of Syria; Israel served for a spouse, And for a wife he tended sheep.12Jacob fled into the land of Aram; Israel served there to obtain his wife, tending sheep to gain his wife.
By a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, And by a prophet he was preserved.13"By a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was rescued.
Ephraim provoked Him to anger most bitterly; Therefore his Lord will leave the guilt of his bloodshed upon him, And return his reproach upon him.14Ephraim has stirred up violent anger; therefore the guilt of his blood will remain on him, and his Lord will repay him for his contempt."
